LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #45

Further followup on the 55CS itself:

It's a gem, and on a level of craft with my three other faves:
Sadowsky Metro RV5; alder, r/w, hc singles...big, modern jazz
Valenti JJ5: alder, r/w; sadowsky singles and preamp: really aggressive jazz
Alleva LG5; alder, r/w: very organic but with a nice grind and edge to it.

I typically run all these about the same:
biased to the neck pup a bit unless the song calls for more bridge-ness
active treble boosted a bit, active bass boosted a little less; passive tone dialed back a little bit.
This eq lets me use passive tone only to go from really edgey to pretty chocolate.

I was hoping the Chi's would land between the Alleva and Valenti in terms of edge, but, they're pretty organic...Love the bass, but, it seems "like duplicated effort" next to the Alleva.

It sure does sit just right in a mix, and I really enjoy it. Sounds great, feels great...but, I'm not feeling a long term affair though, because of the note above...if I do post it for sale again, it won't be for any shortcoming of the bass itself, but rather cause I already have a really great toolkit.

what do you feel about the bridge pickup soloed?

Just pulled out the Skyline JO after a long hybernation - dang that is a great playing bass.
8lbs, one piece ash body, Fralins, real skinny neck. Heck, I might like it more than my US JO.

Gratuitous pics -

both look great, Jim

Jim:

GREAT contrast there..."older" vs. "newer".....the neck on your US JO is insane! love the aging!

after Doug's comment, your US Joe does look more 'the serious thing', as opposed to the Sky. I do not doubt both are awesome, just perception of the appearance

BTW, when did they stop to put "Joe Osborn" on the headstock?

Hey guys, need some help! My drummers other band has made it to the final ten in this contest and can win a chance to play at Hyde Park with McCartney, Pearl Jam, and a bunch of others! They are representing Nashville, and would appreciate the support. Help some really great guys out!!!

Listening to the clip now, they sound solid! Gonna vote for them when it's over.

hmmm... great pieces. Calling for "The 'Joe Osborn' Joe Osborn Club" :)
Other than that, did they have technical difference with those outside the hundred?
I know, right? It's funny...there are 100, yet I haven't seen many of them. Might have to start a LOG thread.:)

Nope, no technical differences. But they have a reputation for being really great--this one certainly is, in my opinion!

They sound a lot like the White Stripes with a different singer. Obvious comparison I guess... not too many places you can go with a drummer and singer/guitarist. Similar sounding guitar hook/sound too though.

Well, wish I could help. Unfortunately, I'm already obligated (family of a good friend) and voted for these guys... Invalid Link Removed. Oh well. May the best band win!

Yeah, I can definitely see the comparison. A lot of the stuff is closer to Zep than anything. They KILL live.

Cool. Yeah, I checked out some of their other stuff on MySpace. Definitely pick up vibes of different influences. Pretty good stuff.

Actually took the time to check out all the other bands in the contest too. Some pretty decent competition/talent overall. However, (and to keep things on topic) no Lakland sightings. :rollno:

They lost me at "no bass player needed" :(

JK, I'll give 'em support.
