if you get a Duck Dunn you will get the exact same neck you have here.....a DJ neck is quite different....rounder feel to it...

yes...it has the Lakland pickups......I agree 100% on your description of the Lakie pickups....My Skyline JO5 has the Lakies as well.....

Lakland has some of the BEST quality control on their Skyline models...it drives the guys at the factory nuts! As for the $2000 to $3000 difference....since some of the woods and the innerds are the same it really comes down to if:

1) you like a diffferent wood
2) neck feel
3) custom colors

The US ones are SCARIER than SCARY good!

According to its serial (which starts with 0805...) it's from May 2008. That means it has Lakland pickups in it. I had a JO5 with a rosewood fingerboard and Lindys in it(just for 2 weeks) 2 years ago and I liked it very much. Because of that I was thinking about getting a pair of Lindy Fralins but... No need for it. In fact, I liked Lakland pickups more than the Fralins. They can get as polite as Fralins and can be more agressive with a small turn of the tone knob.

Its highs are not as harsh as my Marcus Millers and it's overall sound is more "bassy". I need no low mid bump from the amp specially after the LoRiders. It really is too warm for an ash-maple bass. And weighs 10 lbs. which is quite cool for me. The playability is great. It's like a vintage instrument from the past. Scary quality for a Korean instrument. I can't imagine the US ones. Are they really 2000-3000 $ better than these? Or is it just the custom colors, alder bodies and other personal choices that makes the difference?

Anyway, I love it more and more everyday... :)

yes.....and there is still a small amount of handwork done as a QC measure.....

the nice thing about a PLEK machine (or any "robot") is that they do it the same EVERY time.....if it is good or bad...

I have approached Lakland on serveral occasions about a 5 string HB and even tried to talk carl into building me one.....they all just shake their heads....they say the B gets "floppy" and dead with no real tone...so...it will never happen!

gotta love a company who does what is right even though it "hurts" a little.....

that IS an ebony neck...even the Skylines get ebony.

as for the black backs...yeh - I think they did...

That (eBay HB) had nice woods. I know I've seen pics of sunburst skylines where the sections in the top were glaringly obvious. And didn't sunburst skylines used to have black backs ?
