Congrats on the first Lakie! I'm pretty neutral on rosewood vs. maple, so I'm no help there. I dig black and maple, and hey, it's a little cheaper than the quilted model.
As Doug said, let us know when you get into town! He's out in the northwest 'burbs, I'm in the city, but we'll hang with ya wherever. AND you may get here in time for the Lakland GTG! (No firm date, but it could be in late August.) Between that and living in Chicago, I predict you're gonna be deep into Laklands by the end of this year.

not exactly branching out, Doude. I like Bob's music actually, and Aston 'Familyman' Barrett is an amazing groove maker. We went to their gig a year and a half ago (the Exodus Tour) and still recollect how cool it was. Bob was physically absent for valid reasons, but the air was all there.
Familyman is still playing with them, can you imagine that?

Being a long-term MM adept, please take time and you'll see the 55-02 is not a MM clone but a great bass on its own. She may come real close if you want her to, may not be so angry as a single pickup MM but she has so many tricks up her sleeve!
Black/maple is cool. Hell, deluxe/rosewood is cool too! Once you're in Chicago, you needs must visit the Holy Grail and I'm sure you'll be GASsing for life. Man, they got Leo for sales rep, and he's a natural born pusher
