Thanks guys so far - mine are Rounds.
Re the gauges, I think they are the heavier of the two. Lakland offer Medium (.45 .65 .85 .105) and Light (.40 .60 .80 .100).

So, I'm thinking of *possibly* letting go of my DJ5 (as seen in my avatar).
Brand new Plek'd neck, just back from Lakland a few weeks ago (original neck was twisted and replaced) that looks and plays fantastic. Couple of "fingernail" type indents in the back on the neck right at the 4th and 5th frets (this is how it came from Lakland to me). Nothing major, or that you even notice when playing, but mentioning in interest of full disclosure. Body is just about perfect with some extremely minor signs of use otherwise. Believe this one has the Aero pickups, and prob weighs in around the 11 pound mark. Dunlop dual strap pins installed an comes with original (White) PG too. Was a late '05 model that I bought in January '06 from Bass Northwest.
Still not positive if I want to do it yet, but I'm feeling the need to try something different. Looking to keep it in the Lakland family with a trade for another Lakland (maybe something Chi-d up?). Can add some cash for the the right bass. Has to be a 5'r.

I don't see the Scheff going anywhere. So, how does one upgrade to another staying in the stable without one going?
Oh man, that's going to be so tasty with the blocked neck! You have to play lots of '70s funk on that bass.
Ok, I tracked down some Rotosounds and strung my Decade with them.
On one hand I like the familiar feel, and they're a little more pliable than the stock strings, but I hafta admit there are things I like about the stock ones.
Anyone have a preferance of Rotosounds over the Lakland strings, or vice-versa?

The appeal of the Roto's is that signature sound they make (IMO). I used to love it, but I think I outgrew it. I put some Dunlops nickels on my bass and instantly loved my sound even more. The Dunlops had more mid presence, and a sweet high end as opposed to the harsh grindy highs of the Roto's, more my deal. I've since stopped liking rounds all together and have become a flats guy, love how thick they are, yet stay articulate through the mix.
