Interesting....

I always like Rotos because they were the only ones I found through trial and error which were physically responsive enough for me, as I play very aggressively. Other strings just didn't thwack back tightly enough and I got tired of wasting money on experimenting. So it was less the sound and more the feel.

If Dunlops, given there are two endorsements here so far, are as tough and resilient as Rotos, I'll try them.

Flats, on the other hand, is a sound I really like, but want to have a dedicated bass or two for them. But I'll need one or two more basses for that....

I put flats (Roto nickel) on my fretted and fretless basses, but for the fretted, it would not be my main so I took them off, and the fretless, while it gave it a nice jazzy sound, lost too much tone and growl, so took them off too.

BTW, does somebody knows anything about the Skyline limited edition. I think some of 'em where expected to be available in June... :eyebrow:

Well, they expected to get a big shipment in sometime this month, I'm not sure when. It's only the 18th.;) Also, I'm guessing most of the guys, if not everyone, is at Summer NAMM right now.

The appeal of the Roto's is that signature sound they make (IMO). I used to love it, but I think I outgrew it. I put some Dunlops nickels on my bass and instantly loved my sound even more. The Dunlops had more mid presence, and a sweet high end as opposed to the harsh grindy highs of the Roto's, more my deal. I've since stopped liking rounds all together and have become a flats guy, love how thick they are, yet stay articulate through the mix.

used to play Rotos ALL of the time on my RIC.....maybe I should get a set and see how they sound on a Lakie!!!

So I have been thinking the last couple days and I need some feedback.

As some if you know I justed picked up a skyline hollowbody and I have a few questions now that I have had time to play it out and sit with it for a few hours a day cuddling with it and telling it that's she's beautiful and there will never be anything else like her. Ok maybe I made that last part up... Because everyone knows the American made series are out there, I just don't tell her that.

But I was wondering if it was a good idea to change up some of the internals. I have always played basses that have vol,vol, bass, treb controls it's just what I'm used to and I find it much easier to adjust and find a tone that I love. I'm not saying that I can't get a good tone out of the vol, vol, tone, tone setup I just feel like sometimes I am lacking some treble from the pickups. Would changing up the control setup allow me to pull some more treble or am I missing something with the tone adjustment?

That's what I needed to hear, I wasn't sure that it would help at all but just throwing it out there as an option. It sounds like I need to sit down for a while and fiddle with the tone knobs.
