I've got a 2007 Lakland Skyline DJ. I really like the feel of the neck, and the balance is excellent, but I'm still trying to get the right sound, getting it just right with the two pickup volume knobs is proving trickier than I thought.

Overall though, I think I'm starting to like it better than my American Fender Jazz Deluxe, although I still prefer the cherryburst on my Fender to the placid blue of the Lakland...

Oh, and I'm playing them through an Ashdown ABM C410T-500 EVO II Combo.

Well......I need to look up the factory setting for the LH3....get it back to that....then I can tell you.
I tried to play it at rehearsal two weeks ago. It was so jacked-up, I could only stand it for two songs.

Well, I am sure that you can get it all adjusted. I can let you know where the switches are on my amber if that would help. Let me know.

I have a chance to get a 5594 with Barts. Which pup do you guys like and is there a real big difference between the Bsrts and Lak pups? Also, if offered, would you get a 34 or 35 scale?

General (mass) opinion is that older Barts (pre 2000) are better than the post 2000 p'ups. I love my old Barts in my 55-94, but have never had the chance to A/B them against or even play a Lakland pup'd 55.

I've heard that Lakland's pups are more aggressive than Barts, falling somewhere between the Barts' hifi sound and say the sound of a Musicman.

So, I've been in Illinois for the past few weeks, and I had the opportunity to be a counselor at a Rock Camp for kids in Champaign-Urbana IL for a week.

At the end of the week, the kids play a show at one of the nicer clubs in town and us "old guys" get to get up on stage and play a couple tunes as well.

So here's links to a couple of the songs we did - Cheap Sunglasses and a stripped down, rocked out version of Superstition. For both clips, you're hearing and seeing my 55-01 with Nordy Fat Stacks and 3 band pre running through a Putnam modded VT-Bass out into the house. Stage Rig was a Traynor XS400H through an old Trace Elliot cabinet.

Don't mind my flubs...

I don't own a bass with either one, but you'll find people who like one, the other or both. Barts fans tend to praise their warmth, while the LH3s seem to be a little more aggressive.

34" scale Lakland fivers are very, very rare. They aren't even offered, though there are a few out there.

I wasn't so sure about the tone till I talked to the sound engineer for the night who happens to be a good friend of mine, who raved about it. Can't complain then. ;)

glad you like the Lakie better than youe Fender...the color can always be changed.....rather reasonably as well!

You might consider getting a J-retro preamp installed...you may like the control setup and layout better....caution though - you have to order one from Lakland or from tehj company directly as the DJ cavity has a slightly different shape than "std"...
