Haha, well... I used to do everything on 6ers for.... well... forever, slap, tap, whatever. But, 4 years of playing 5ers in a hard rock (no slap) band has made me sloppy. So, I'm gonna slappa da 4 string bass.

On a 6 string that makes for a wide board to me. If I'm playing six, it's all fingerstyle and chordal stuff (not that I'm great at either of course!). I like tight spacing on a 6. Really, I'd prefer 18 mm spacing on a 5 string. I had a Skjold that was 18 mm spacing and it was fantastic. Amazing what that 1mm does to make it the neck more comfy. The Lakland 5's are comfy enough though for sure!

After playing various 6ers w/ all the different string spacings over the years, I think that I'd prefer 18mm or less also. I think that 19mm would make it easier to go back and forth to my 4s and 5s, but I'm starting to think the smaller neck benefit outweighs that.
