LAKLAND OWNERS GROUP #49

Hey Grateful that's why I always say Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors of ice cream....everybody likes (and hears) something different. Thanks for you input.

Neil....

My Bart'd 55-94 has always laid waste to every other bass I've tried out w/ the band... cut thru better, sounded better... you name it. It even blew away my Dingwalls in the studio, engineers preferred it over them TWICE, and Dingwalls are pianos on a stick IMO. That's the primary reason why both Dingwalls are gone, and why I've also sold off most other Laklands... I think I've had close to 20 in the last 3 years.

If you want, I'll peak inside and give you my mid switch setting so you can try that out?

JJ that's really interesting. I don't remember your bass but I'm assuming the bass you're talking about "laying waste to all others" has "old Bart" pre and pups...with the recessed lettering on the MM pup and raised letters on the J pup like mine correct?

When I gigged with this bass I had the internal mid-switch setting at 250Hz. It made the bass sound very dark. I then set it to 500Hz and that seemed to help a bit however I haven't gigged with it at 500Hz yet.

If you could take a look inside and let me know where your mids are set at I'd really appreciate it. Also what strings are you using? The reason I ask is that the strings that were on the bass when I bought it were Lakland stainless steels. I just put on a set of DR High-Beams and that seemed to open it up a lot more. It actually made it kind of bright.

Thanks JJ. Looking forward to hearing back from you bro.

Oooo yeah, I totally and thoroughly do NOT like Lakland steels. My 55-94 does have the old Bart pups and pre, like yours. And, I have used DR stainless Longnecks and occasionally MTD stainless strings on her.

I'll take a look inside, PM you a pic of my switches, tomorrow.

Just thought I'd chime in and let yall know my early candy apple red 55-01 is still going strong. Survived Mardi Gras season and is wearing a freshly boiled set of Dunlop nickels. 6 gigs a week for the past year plus flying, Bourbon street, outdoor festivals and open mic jams and shes still performing beautifully! Jazzfest and French Quarter fest here we come!

That's impressive!

Especially in NOLA with the heat and humidity...

Laissez les bon temps rouler!

I've got the Skyline Stainless on mine, I thought they sounded pretty good, but I've not gigged it yet, I do like DR's a lot, what other strings work well with it?

And spread those switches around a bit. :)

Well, I think it looks too plain with the neck that's on it now. Hopefully the vintage tint neck will dress it up some. Are you getting a matching headstock?

It's gonna be a piece of birdseye that I picked myself for it wild figuring, so it won't need dressing up ;-). And no, the tele stock is Birdseye too, so no paint.
