Just in case anyone was wondering what I was up to... your LOG basses just became even more of a limited edition. I'll get better pics later, but she looks, feels, and sounds amazing. I wanted to combine my two favorite Lakies...

Well, don't know if I could say I disagree.... I can only compare a 35" scale 55-94 w/ MTD strings to a 34" 44 w/ DRs.

Marcel I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I really want to keep the bass because it feels and plays unbelievably. Really like butta!!! The store I bought my bass from has also has a new 55-94 so I plan to go back there and compare the original Bart with the Hanson Pups/ LH-3. Hopefully I can do that this weekend. And thanks regarding your info about keeping the original pre & pups.

Greg I haven't seen the LH-3 demo so thanks for turning me on to that. I"ll be checking it out shortly.

Neil,

I, like Marcel, have tried all the three (but not Nordstrand either). Quite on the contrary, I like the bite and zest of the LH-3 rather than the 'newer' Barts that are flatter and thicker in the low-mids but mellow on the highs and soft in the lows. Least of all did I like the 'older' Barts that seemed lifeless and too dark to me. I was about to sell the bass, then I replaced the pickups with the LH-3s, and they brought the bass to life! It was like getting a whole new instrument, but every hundredth of an inch of it was at home. Best choice for me quite evidently.
On the contrary, the guy with whom I traded the pickups, is happy with my former Barts's supportive lows and low-mids, and that is better for his work.

The bottom line is, you really need to give a try to as many as you can. The pickups alone may suffice, like in my case. They are all good, as good as good knife, spoon and fork may be. So it's really up to what's on your plate.

I would also like to hear an unbiased review of the Nordstrand and Delano 55-94 sets, not based on the brands alone, because I do think the rest are very good too

The original body was fitted to a maple neck, alter the neck was traded in it didn't fit perfectly so I wanted to fix this, and while I was at decided to go straight P bass since I have other basses to get that gurpy j bass bridge tone, and like the cleen look of a straight P.

To my ears the LH-3/Hanson system sounded cleaner and more natual to me. I really liked them a lot and will certainly replace my older Bart system with them. I'm not familiar with the new Barts but I agree totally with your assessment of the older Barts...they are lifeless and dark. The also sound very compressed to me. To my ears (and my band mates) they didn't cut through in a live mix at all...sort of just got lost and sounded muddy.

I'm happy to hear you felt the LH-3 system brought new life to your bass because as much as I love the feel of my bass the sound just wasn't doing it for me.

I'm not sure what you meant when you said that...."but every hundredth of an inch of it was at home".

Funny how things work. Having had basses both incarnations of Barts and LH3, my preferences in order are: Old Barts, LH-3, New Barts. But as Denchiq says, it all depends on what's on your plate. I tend to use different basses for different tones. I have a P5 (flats) and (on Monday) a J5 (strings TBD) to do their specific tones so I like to let the 55-94 (Light Nickels) be what it is. The tone from the old Barts fits so well with the stuff we do. Our guitarist says that it's snappy when it needs to be and solid the rest of time.

Doesn't mean I won't swap 'em out someday...:hiding:
