me bad Engrish... I meant, "it was like getting a whole new bass, except every instance of it was so well-known". Is this better ? :)

I traded this one for my brand new LOG2010 (RW/Nordstrand) which was way to aggressive/trebley to my ears. :hiding:

Now, the DJPJ has the same Nordie PU, the same wood combo as the 55-64, but has a lot more oomph, wether selecting the P PU, the J, or both.

that is interesting, considering the same wood/pickup combo... Also I thought the DJ WAS the agressive/trebley j-bass

Funny how things work. Having had basses both incarnations of Barts and LH3, my preferences in order are: Old Barts, LH-3, New Barts. But as Denchiq says, it all depends on what's on your plate. I tend to use different basses for different tones. I have a P5 (flats) and (on Monday) a J5 (strings TBD) to do their specific tones so I like to let the 55-94 (Light Nickels) be what it is. The tone from the old Barts fits so well with the stuff we do. Our guitarist says that it's snappy when it needs to be and solid the rest of time.

Doesn't mean I won't swap 'em out someday...:hiding:

Oooo yeah, I totally and thoroughly do NOT like Lakland steels. My 55-94 does have the old Bart pups and pre, like yours. And, I have used DR stainless Longnecks and occasionally MTD stainless strings on her.

Lakland steels are so-so, but the price is good. I'm still wondering how come they are less expensive than the GHS, even being 1 inch longer
DR Longnecks work great for me but they are pricey
Ernie Ball Regular Slinky (green pack) are probably the best price/quality ratio
