It just really amazes me the price I paid for this bass and there is literally nothing quality wise that distinguishes it from a run of the mill MIM. It wasn't fun while it lasted. I still want to check out some US models though.

Sorry to hear it. I had severe problems with a Skyline, and spent an extremely frustrating year trying to benefit from L?kland's apparently fabulous customer service. In fact, I had gone from putting electrical tape over the logo when I fogged it, to finally buying a Fender P and putting the 55-02 in the corner.

Then Dan sold the company and the new owners made it all better. My new Indo Skyline has an unholy buzz issue on the neck, even post setup, but I went to a different luthier than usual, so after the St. Patrick's week slaughter I'm off to my usual guy.

I certainly wouldn't buy a new Skyline sight-unseen, but I won't write 'em off completely. I'd definitely get a US-made one, though.

Alright! Did yours come with D'Addario strings as well? I noticed they have quite a low tension, my teacher also noticed that. I'm gonna play these strings 'til they're dead, but then a brand new set of DR Hi-Beams which hopefully are tighter and the thundering B-string will be even more thunderierererer!

Hi-Beams are round core, and probably close to the same tension. I love them, but I don't like a tone of tension.

Did you contact Lakland about these problems?

I just put a set of High-Beams on my 55-94 and my B string rings like a bell and is extremely articule even passed the 12th fret.

I don't mind liht gauge strings, but I don't care for low tension strings. It did come with D'Addarios, but were replaced with a set of pretty new Chromes. I can't believe that the bass still growls even with the Chromes on it! I picked up a Carvin BX250 micro head and it all sounds amazing through it.

55-60+Chromes+'Drive'=:bassist: Though I do plan on putting a stacked US plate on it.

My 55-94 has nickels (Lakland lights) and covers that more active-y tone.

If you want more tension, look at a set of Lo-Riders. They are hex-core. Also, look at the DR FatBeams. That's a heck of a string.

I have a LOG, a 55-94, a trans-white 55-60 and a Chi'd up Custom. This pretty much wraps up bass acquisition for me. For now.

Nice! I'm still about a week or two out on mine because I'm having Chi-Sonics installed and according to Brian @Lakland they are a little behind on the pickup side of things right now.

Hey guys, i posted this before in another section but I wanted to post it in the Lakland forum for some help. Heres a vid of me using my 55-02 with my GK rig on a news show. I trying to dial in my tone close to perfect, i know the Lakland guys can help. I think I have a pretty good start, but i need a little help in gettin my tone perfect. Any suggestions? Thanks. BTW, bass only running through the 2 2x12's and the 1001RB. Th eother speaker and amp are for my keybass rig, which i wasnt using this day.

Killer playing bro! Sounds tight. I used to live in your neck of the woods (Hudsonville). Bass sounds great through my crappy laptop monitors here at work.

Great playin' man! Sounds awesome! I guess if I were to be pushed to suggest any change...maybe a little more upper mid bite? You probably can get some of that from the gain on the GK. Sounds great the way it is though!

How does the mid selector relate to a preference for Old Barts ?

I'm interested because of the contrast I seem to be finding between 'late barts' (2005) and Lakie p'ups (2008). I've set the mid pre to about 275 (from memory, might be 250) on the Lakies and dialed in a slight mid boost to get a sound that suits me on the 2008 p'ups.

On the topic of strings, I have DR Fat Beams on my 55-01. That bass has never sounded better or played better. My 44-02s both have DR Bootzilla 55-110s on them. Personally, I love these strings. They have the amount of tension that I want and sound great.

I also tune down a step for my band with the occasional low C on the 4 strings.

Great job, need headphones to hear it well but it still sounded good!

Yeah, I emailed Brian and he said the trans white just wasn't available with blocks...why must the gods torment me?!?

The inca silver isn't bad though...just not quite the same as the trans white...poo.

Yes still with the old Barts. Gonna do another gig or 2 before I decide whether or not to go for the LH-3/Hanson. I'm not jumping up and down for joy yet but for me the High-Beams
give me more of what I'm looking for. More open and airy and less compressed than the Lakland steels. The tension on the High Beams seem about right as well.

Interesting about the mid selector setting. Maybe there's something to it since both you and JJ have your bass set that way. By the way that setting is 850Hz. I seem to favor the 700Hz setting but I've only experimented in my house...on a gig who knows what will work better. I plan on trying all the frequencies to see which works better for me.

I'd love to hear what rigs you guys are using with your Laklands. My typical set-up is a Mesa M9 head with either a Genz Benz UBER 410 or a Bergantino HS410.
