The inca silver isn't bad though...just not quite the same as the trans white...poo.

I'd love to hear what rigs you guys are using with your Laklands. My typical set-up is a Mesa M9 head with either a Genz Benz UBER 410 or a Bergantino HS410.

I've been using 2 Genz Shuttle 6.0s w/ a Berg NV215 (clean) and a NV425 (w/ effects) or sometimes I sub a Dr Bass 2460D for the effected cab. Lately, I've been breaking in 2 Carvin LS1503s which will be my lighter, more portable setup.

Hmmm, well, I may just have to try and see that for myself. I really do like the inca silver too...just hard to compete with grain! Also, I really would love to see that Inca with a different pick guard. I think the white kinda washes it out.

There's also a thing on the the pre module that appears to be adjustable w/ a small flathead screwdriver. I used to know what this does, Carl told me once, but...

My internal gain control is also set all the way up and my bass isn't overly loud. It's about as loud as my other active basses.

rather, it is the active/passive output ratio control.

E.g., you may set it at the same volume that your passive sound is, and so have 2 separate presets at one pull of the volume knob

Well, I don't want to be "that" guy, but just dumped my Skyline 44-64 in part trade for a Fender 60's Classic Jazz. I know it's apples to oranges but I'm really sorry I was dismayed and swayed by all the positive hype surrounding these. Perhaps quality is on a downturn since the Indonesian shift but I have never been so unhappy with a bass. I spent more money on this axe than I ever have for an instrument and it gave me more problems than any of the 20 or so basses I've owned in my life put together. I hate to be a party pooper but it was in large part due to all the positive reviews here that I chose it over a Fender. I know to paint the brand as bad because of a lemon isn't fair but I'll never go with a Skyline again. It just really amazes me the price I paid for this bass and there is literally nothing quality wise that distinguishes it from a run of the mill MIM. It wasn't fun while it lasted. I still want to check out some US models though.

Frankly, not _every_ Lakland I've played was like a glove to my hand. But I swear the best basses I've ever played so far WERE Laklands, and I'm hanging to them in the future

Just became a Lakland owner yesterday day, bought a skyline 44-01 from guitar guitar in Newcastle. Got so say, chalk & cheese from the Peavey international 5 string I've upgraded from! The tones are just blowing my mind! Glad I did get that musicman sub bass now!

yep, me wondering as well. IMO, the only thing the Barts do better than the Hansons is the P-bass. It is thumpier, woolier, and less clanky. My wrong?

Can any of you fellow Lakaholics tell me my options for a 35" Lakland PJ 5 string? I've been considering modding a 5501, but recently saw the 55-64. Do those come with a PJ option?

see Markus' response below.. they SURE can....and they sound and feel GREAT! I have a US PJ5 and a Skyline LOG bass (that MAY get a J...not sure though)

Yes...you can order a PJ option. The J is routed and installed in Chicago.

I traded this one for my brand new LOG2010 (RW/Nordstrand) which was way to aggressive/trebley to my ears.

Now, the DJPJ has the same Nordie PU, the same wood combo as the 55-64, but has a lot more oomph, wether selecting the P PU, the J, or both.

hmmmm......maybe you should have ordered the VP (vintage P?) that DJ PJ is really nice though......congrats!

Hey, awesome thread so far! hopefully if I get accepted into my college (will find out March 15th) I'm going to order a Lakland 44-60 skyline custom! (blocks and binding with metallic teal and matching headstock)

Yeah, the pink (coral) P/J is becoming a "JJ's Customs" creation :-D. It appears that older Laklands had neck heel dimensions that match Fender specs, where as the newer necks are slightly narrower at the heel.

My coral bass will have a vintage tint all birdseye neck and fretboard (picked the wood myself), stainless tiny vintage size frets, Tele stock w/ longstem rev wind Hipshots, LH neo P and J pickups, BAIII bridge, not sure about the pickguard yet. May sport a bridge cover.

Just thought I'd chime in and let yall know my early candy apple red 55-01 is still going strong. Survived Mardi Gras season and is wearing a freshly boiled set of Dunlop nickels. 6 gigs a week for the past year plus flying, Bourbon street, outdoor festivals and open mic jams and shes still performing beautifully! Jazzfest and French Quarter fest here we come!

I was going to answer but you already have the answer below:

Prolly the overall output for the preamp. The LH-3 has it as well. That thing can get crazy hot when you turn it all the way up. I set it to match the gain of my other basses for the most part.

Brand New 55-60 in Trans White. This is one of those basses that looks like a normal, classic bass, but when you get up close, you see all the cool trans-ocity and see-thru-itude.

I have a LOG, a 55-94, a trans-white 55-60 and a Chi'd up Custom. This pretty much wraps up bass acquisition for me. For now.

sorry to hear that! If I were you, and if the bass was REALLY that bad, I would write an email to: [email protected] and tell him exactly what was wrong with it.....since it is gone, they will not be able to fix it for you BUT I am sure Lakland would appreciate any (Constructive) feedback you have.....They REALLY DO listen to their customers......

Ummmm, how about telling what was actually wrong with it? I've been on this thread for years, and I don't think any of us have ever hesitated to tell all the hits AND misses with Skyline (Korean or Indo) and US Laklands. My reviews have been honest, even when I've encountered a twisted neck which was replaced for FREE.

If you spent a lot on it, it must've been new, and you could have gotten a full refund.

If it was truly a lemon, then complaints are warranted BUT we need to know Exactly what the issues were....

Alright! Did yours come with D'Addario strings as well? I noticed they have quite a low tension, my teacher also noticed that. I'm gonna play these strings 'til they're dead, but then a brand new set of DR Hi-Beams which hopefully are tighter and the thundering B-string will be even more thunderierererer!

I love the D'Addario strings actually! I am by NO means a popper or slapper but the D'Addario strings allow me a little "fun" now and again...more so that higher tension strings....

I just put a set of High-Beams on my 55-94 and my B string rings like a bell and is extremely articule even passed the 12th fret.

So are you happier overall? Is this still with the Old Barts? FWIW, after my slobbering on how awesome the Old Barts are for me I checked my mid selector on the pre as well. They are also 2 down like Jedi's.

Nice! I'm still about a week or two out on mine because I'm having Chi-Sonics installed and according to Brian @Lakland they are a little behind on the pickup side of things right now.

Hey guys, i posted this before in another section but I wanted to post it in the Lakland forum for some help. Heres a vid of me using my 55-02 with my GK rig on a news show. I trying to dial in my tone close to perfect, i know the Lakland guys can help. I think I have a pretty good start, but i need a little help in gettin my tone perfect. Any suggestions? Thanks. BTW, bass only running through the 2 2x12's and the 1001RB. Th eother speaker and amp are for my keybass rig, which i wasnt using this day.

I am taking Grateful's advice and trying to track down one of the Inca Silvers to see it in person. Living in Chicago this might not be a pain in the butt.
