Question here. I don't know much about the Laklands but I'm interested in a Skyline 55-64 and I'm wondering if dealers are able to place custom orders for these since I believe they're not made in the US (correct?). It seems most dealers only tend to have the sunburst finish and I just can't get with that look. I'd love to get a red or black finish which I think they offer.

Any info is appreciated.

Skylines come in batches of 100 units, all the same color. The colors are announced with quite a bit of lead time. So you can definitely work with a dealer to place an order when a new batch comes. To my knowledge, so far were only two batches of 55-64s: the LOG Bass (butterscotch blonde, special batch of only 30 units) and the sunburst you are referring to. You can ask your dealer or Lakland direct what are the planned colors for the near future.

But... You can always refinish it. Pat Wilkins does all Lakland US finishes and he is awesome. He usually needs a couple of months to work on your bass, but the results are well worth it. And the price is not bad at all, as one might think. Check him out.

Thanks for the info! I might bite on a P5 I saw on here knowing that. I'm assuming the refinish cost varies based on what you want. I'm probably just looking for a solid color or maybe a translucent color.

Well looks like I'll have a nice Skyline 55-64 on its way to me shortly. :)

I figure the difference between what I paid and what it goes for new I can throw towards the refinish.

A couple questions:

- What's a good hardshell case that will fit. I know it's a standard P body but I'm not sure if the 35" scale and headstock would be a problem for some standard P cases.

- Are super long scale strings recommended for stringing through the body? Not sure what kind of string I'll use yet but they'll probably be rounds.

Thanks for the all the help - can't wait to try this bass.

I had mine shipped ( from the US to EU) in a regular Gator case.
I had d'Addario and Lakland Steels on it. I liked the Laklands least: way too clanky.
On my DJ5 (modded to a Nordstrand PJ setup) I tried the Sadowsky Blue Labels XL and Black Labels XL.
The blue Sados sound definetely fullest.

You might want to Link Removed and Laklands. I'm a fan of DR Hibeams myself, and string them through the body of all my Laklands (whatever DR's standard length is works fine FME).

Enjoy the bass!

Congrats! Looking forward to seeing the refin, let us know what you choose.

You could purchase a Lakland-branded hardshell case they sell separately for the Skylines, they're reasonably priced and look really nice. And if you find yourself in the city on the North side, you could swing by and pick one up at the shop. Just let them know you're coming first.:)

Thanks! I've already been in contact with Pat Wilkins and will likely send the bass off for the refin once I have a chance to play it a little after it arrives.

Planning on a translucent green finish similar to the Sherwood Green - there's a darker trans green sample on the Wilkins site which looks good to me. I always wanted a trans teal EBMM and to me this color looks very close to it, plus I have enough EBMM's. :) The seller had a black p/g on it already so I think it will look really nice with the rosewood board.

Good idea about the case. I like my cases to be branded with what is inside them. I definitely want a hardshell to send it to Wilkins in.

Sounds very cool!

I found a picture of the case: Link Removed

Recently traded in my Deluxe 44-02 for a MM Stingray SLO Special HH. After a very brief honeymoon :rollno:, the 'ray was traded in for a Fender P. Still wanting a '2nd'* bass, I looked at a BG4 & JO4 Skyline. Once I got the 44-02 back in my hands, I decided it was the perfect complement to my P, so I bought back my old 44-02!

* 2nd as in wanting 2 basses; not implying the 44-02 takes a back seat.

All this talk is really making me miss my LOG bass.... In other news may be sending the 55-01 for a refin

Cool! What are you going with?

Those gigbags look so much better than the crass Levi's POS I got with my original 55-02. If I didn't have such a sweet iGig bag, I'd be sorely tempted.

They're great bags!

Queue the Peaches and Herb... Reunited and it feels so good...

John (Gecko 5) sold me his 55-64 LOG LE bass in a Gator case. I don't have a bass just yet but somehow it fits.
