the bass I have being built is a CB550 (Chicago Bass Doctor 5 string...hand built by Carl Pedigo but based (heavily) off a 55-94)

I was after the one with the RW fretboard.....it sounded remarkable!!!

You ain't no dummy....that bass you showed in nice as well..

I'm partial to maple actually. That one with the maple fb makes me feel all funny inside... in a good way.

Oh, and Matty - the 4-76 has some ridonculous figuring in the fretboard. Super nice.

I'm wondering if you've ever had the opportunity to compare that bass with a Stingray? If so, how did the tone, eq and playability compare?

I was recently reading a product profile in the September '97 Bass Player mag—and it definitely has me interested.

It has a stingray vibe, with a bit of a modern edge on it. I would say a Ray is a bit more aggressive sounding, which I was actually thinking of swapping out the pickups for the basslines to get more of that classic ray tone.

Matty, what are the details on the amber? That looks a lot like mine.

Lakland #146 4-76. bart pickup and pre. same body and neck as the 4-94

Nah, I'm not saying you aren't committed to Lakland... I think it's pretty darn obvious you do Markus. But you guys love "wife swapping" I can't imagine I'd ever trade or sell my 4-94

hey matty, yours is bartolini all the way. how's that compared to the "MM's MMs"? I hear peeps had BassLines installed to have that tone nailed, and having tried barts I'd expect them to have less bite and glass and more low mids, no?

Your EXACTLY right dennis. Thats pretty much spot on. The barts do sound amazing though. I want that MM tone though, so I have been seriously considering the basslines. Im a straight up rock player, and while the brats are GREAT for jazz,funk, and r&b, they leave a little to be desired in the rock setting.

I ALMOST got me a 55-76 classic in black. The guys that did the bidding for me lost it by several bucks and the auction ended at less than $1200, can you imagine that?!

sooo... I just got off the phone with Chuck from Bass Emporium, and he's practically giving away the Lakies in the store!
Seriously!
They're offering crazy low prices if you call and ask 'em. check the website. I'm not allowed to say how much he quoted me for the 44-64 they've got in stock, but I'll say this: it seriously blurs the price difference between new and used.
