The US Hollowbody showed up today on the brown truck.
Seller packed her reeeeally well, thankfully.
Due to cold weather she is thawing out in her case.
Should be able to tune up and give it a rip shortly.

Hope this baby is "all that and a bag of chips" ...hahahah!!

Looks amazing.
I have a skyline one with the Bart pickups. Bet that one is even better.

I think so as well..it really looks like something to put in a glass case in person....pics do not do it justice.
I just gave her a Wax and tuned her up and played a bit...

Cannot plug it in and blast the dark stars till morning when everyone leaves...hahaha!!

My Skyline HB w/Dark Stars came with Lakland Joe Osborn flats on it. It sounds reallllly deep when I want it to, but the highs are still nicely detailed. I might try some middier flats on it.

I have nickels (DR Sunbeams) on my DS'd Glaub, you might dig that sound if you truly can't stand flats. I would not recommend steels, Dark Stars are very sensitive and if your technique isn't fantastic (and mine sure isn't!), you'll end up with a good bit of extra noise.

It came with flats when I bought it used but I use DR nickel low riders. Snarly, aggressive, warm, bassy or mellow. All by playing with the tone knobs.

I love it.

I do think it is a killer bass...for the 10 minutes I had to play it unplugged...will plug it in tomorrow when time allows...
Maybe sunbeams will be a good sting on this?

I guess it is not "can't stand flats"....they are ok...just not my thing normally.
I like more low/mids for most things. nickle rounds are my usual string of choice.

Question for my Lakland guru buds out there.

I plugged in the new US hollowbody this AM.
Gotta say it ISSSS "massive" and many have said it would be.
Amazing pups!! WOW!!!
BUT!
The neck pup will make some odd noise or buzz when my fingers touch it.
It does this all the time.
But is most loud and noticeable when the tone control(s) is/are set to the most treble setting.
Also when the "dark switch" or smaller toggle is flipped forward and the highs are cut back it is barely noticed when touching the bridge pup.
But when that switch is flicked to the back of the bass and the treble is back to normal it once again is more present.
When I touch the bridge pup, nothing like this takes place at all.
It seems to only be present with the neck pup.

These Darkstars where ordered by Lakland for the original owner and where installed by Lakland at their factory.
So I know the pups are legit and the install was top notch.

Any thoughts on what this could be? Or what could be done to correct it?

Shipping my HB back to Lakland to have the humbucker Chi's switched out for some single-coils this week. Little nervous about shipping my baby off... but I'm pretty pumped to hear the results.

For anyone who ships these regularly, how much does it usually run you for ground shipping?

Shipping UPS ground should run around $50-$55 each way ( from NC to Chicago ) for you if you insure it for full value and pack the box really well, which I assume you will do being it is your baby...lol
If it is a skyline insurance will run you a bit less than if it is a US HB.
I know to insure a bass with UPS for around $1,500 will run an additional $9.00 or so...
So double it is it is a $3,000 US model....$18.00 insurance approx.

The $9 or $18 insurance I mentioned I figured into the initial guesstimate of $50-$55.....
not in addition to it. Just so ya know.

They normally just crush them and recycle them anyway.
And it could get ya a better box for free than ya might actually buy at a shipping store.
I know the UPS stores charge a good deal for a box and often they are not the best fit.
That could mean using much more packing materials which could cost money. AND could add a bunch of extra weight, which will cost ya more at the UPS counter when they weigh it to ship it.

Yeah, the case is 48x18x5". And I plugged that into the little shipping-estimate tool on various shipping websites... But those estimates have always been off for me in the past.

yea sometimes they are off....
figure ya need a box maybe 51" 52" long....
21-22" wide....
7" deep...
that should give ya room to pack it well.

I use Sunbeams on my DJ4 and theyre perfect in that bass. Still prefer nickel LowRiders on the Glaub and Hollow.
