Jedi Bass, I'm intrigued by that double humbucker silver one! Please tell us about it! Tone, versatility, etc.
It was an early Decade 5er.... not really a prototype I suppose (since it was a Skyline), but one of a few Skys that were built to test the design. Basspraiser can probably give more info since he's at the factory so much.
Anyways, it was loaded w/ early prototype chi-buckers that were made differently than the current ones (not talking about the housing either). I think Carl said he built them himself, and they had better highs. It also had the active/passive tone knob which I never really cared about honestly... just never tweaked it enough to see the benefit.
Milky (a local TBer) played all my basses, US Lakies and other nice instruments, and preferred the Decade over them all. The neck humbucker was like the fattest P bass ever and that's what he loved the most about it. The bridge p'up was closer to the bridge than a 55 offering a little more bite. It was a very versatile bass!
I still keep my eyes peeled for a US Decade 5er w/ maple fretboard, chi-buckers and preamp.
