That doesn't sound to me like anything different to any other active pre with a blend. I'm not understanding what, if anything, is special about the Sadowsky yet. Unless perhaps they've organised things so that the centre of the pot travel is 'broadened' ... i.e. so it's easier to fine tune the blend.

I don't think it's something 'special' as it is just a different way of doing it. The current setup just isn't to my liking. The new one could have been an LH3/Audere or most anything else and I'd probably like it. I have an LH3 that I like in another bass so I just wanted to do something different.

I certainly didn't mean to insinuate that other preamps don't blend without noise, just that it was a requirement for the replacement.

I also haven't posted a picture of it so I don't really have it.

I had them convert my US P5 to a PJ and, prior to that had them convert my 2002 Glaub to a PJ.

a few folks have had their LOG basses converted.

No better company to do it!

also - make sure they put in a split coil P to reduce noise

Has anyone had Lakland do a PJ conversion on their Bob Glaub 44-64 bass? I'm thinking about doing this.

unfortunately, they did the 3 knob set up on the US PJ before I told them i wanted stacked knobs....

Yep, Doug's had it done on both a Skyline Glaub and a US. Great work both times, IMO. If you do this, consider a stack knob arrangement.

The J adds more depth in my humble opinion!

The cost should not be that much......if you do it, have lakland do iut. that means carl pedigo will do the conversion....no better person to do it well...

I had been pretty satisfied with the sound of my Glaub until I tried a friend's PJ bass. I was very impressed. I'm very weary of modifying a US Lakland though. Plus the cost...

just to clarify, the US AJs have the LH3 and the passive option.....

I did promise some AJ-44 review stuff but most of it is going to have to wait a week or so. My original plan wasn't to keep the Bart MK-1 preamp in it. I figured I would give it a chance but it falls right into the same stuff I dislike about Bartolini preamps. That isn't to say they aren't good, they just aren't for me.

So, the bass plays really nice ( go figure it's a Lakland ). The only thing that isn't up to par for my taste is the preamp. The first reason is there isn't a passive option. I like to have that available. The second reason is I just don't like the way it sounds.

Which brings me to what I intended to do anyway. Which is create something new and unusual. I'm going to call it "The Big Lakowsky".

Sadowsky is sending me a preamp that I'll put in and THEN do sound clips. It also allows the blending of single coil pickups without the 60 cycle hum.

This entire package will end up being exactly 1287.00 shipped to my door so it's not a real bank breaker IMO.

I believe so, but someone mentioned a few posts back that there is a known issue with the control plate not fitting correctly on the DJs. May want to scroll back a couple of pages and check into that.

I do know that Audere makes a specific model pre to fit the Darryl Jones basses. Due to the bit of a curve it has opposed to the normal J style basses.
