It's interesting. Very different from the Glaub or other Laklands I have played. The neck is not at all the typical Lakland neck. It also feels really long even though it's standard scale. That will take some getting used to.

It's a fantastic looking bass. The binding and inlays are top notch. Acoustically the bass really sings. I have had mahogany basses before but it's been awhile and I am not sure if that is part of it or not.

Pat did a great job with the headstock refinish. It sounds fantastic but will take some time getting used to. I did not get a chance to crank the Chi's full volume yet. I am guessing that will be wicked.

Cool man! Yeah...I'm a P bass guy like you, but the Decade has that certain something that makes me love it. The upper horn being shorter definitely puts the nut farther away, but I'm tall with apish length arms so no biggie. Yeah...cranked with both pickups full on or the bridge dimmed a little and tone about half way is my fav. The pick tone is killer!

The day I bought my Lakland, I didn't even want to play it originally. But I did - there - at Bass Central, sitting on the stool with my bare feet on top of the cab, and it was lust at first note. My buddy who was along for the trip said, "My wife makes that face, but it has nothing to do with bass. Every girl should have that look on her face at least daily. I hope you're thinking about buying that one."

I wasn't - but I did. And it's one of the best things I've ever bought myself. Ever. :happy sigh:

Thanks guys, glad you dig it! It's really a great bass.
Bought it from a guy who collects Lakies, and off course plays them but never outside the home.

I'm not that in to flats, but on this bass they really sing so i'm thinking of maybe leaving them on an just get used to it. I'm guessing it's the original Lakland Flats from 2006, i dont think he ever changed the strings. Perhaps i'll put on some Chromes or something a tad brighter.

yep I am guilty of this.
Collecting a few choice Lakland US basses.....aaaand collecting alembics and musicman and mike lulls and soon a spector USA possibly.

Not by choice do they not leave the home however.
Just that my business of 26 years is much more important than being in a bar band making $50 per night if that.

I mean? I guess I could take them out in the yard and play them? That way they get out of my home?

I'm the opposite: if it doesn't see gig time, it gets moved on to someone who'll enjoy it more. I've sold some fairly nice basses, some utter crap, and I donated my former main gigging axe to Cuba after their last mega, apocalyptic tropical storm, along with a guitar and stuff.

I hear ya man.
As my best friend of 37 years always says of his car business " There is an ass for every seat".

This saying he uses rings true to me in every walk of life, daily.
And pertains to the uses of ones bass or basses as well.

If I subscribed the the idea you mentioned I would have no bass and no rig. Simply because I have no time and no band.

I buy my gear because I love to, and can.
I enjoy the time I have to play and look forward to that "my time" in a hectic life.
And it helps keep me "sane" sort of? hahaha!! :eyebrow:
