On a side note, it's official guys! My mom has got the tickets (she works for the airlines and we can get on almost any flight), and my dad and I are heading to Chicago Thursday to (maybe?) go to Lakland, Bass Club Chicago, and any other bass retailers that have Laklands, because I just really don't have a great way to play them here in Kansas =/. I'm psyched!!

Yeah, ask them again, or just call the place and ask. It could be a crazy day for them, I'm not sure.

Have a great time! Bass Club Chicago is a must, Mark has all kinds of great gear and has been getting some really neat US Laklands in recently. Also, go to Chicago Music Exchange--they usually have a few Lakies, but they also have an incredible collection of vintage basses and they're willing to let people try them out. These two stores, along with the Lakland factory, are within a 2-3 mile radius on the North Side, so you should be able to hit'em all pretty easily.

You'll also be in my neighborhood. Wish I could say let's meet up, but this Thursday is my busiest work day of the year--I'm spending close to 12 hours at my company's annual conference! Oh well, have fun!

Just a drive by to give an update on my 44-94. I have chromes on it now, and not sure if the ebony board has anything to do with it or not, because I can't compare to a maple or rosewood fretboard, but the tone is unreal! Rich and full, with killer definition! So much tonal texture in all of the strings. Didn't have to make any setup adjustments going to the Chromes and the neck is awesome!

Haven't had the pleasure of trying an Ebony board, I'm typically a Rosewood guy. Is it moreso a different flavor of rosewood or a completely different beast in itself?

Almost the only type of tourism I enjoy! When I was in Rome last year, I saw all of the great attractions and all of the in-depth brilliant historical architecture, BUT I made sure I had some time to go around to some of the music shops and I ended up playing a few small-luthier type of basses that I liked very much!

Broadening my musical spectrum day by day!

IMHO the most satisfying tourism is travel that involves meeting and really interacting with locals. Next come music and food-heavy trips, with sight seeing being my number 4 priority. Happily, it all usually blurs together :-)

This seems like it is more of a difference than between maple and rosewood. not sure about in the mix, but just by itself, I'm thinking there is a tonal difference.
