ALRIGHT I'm kind of freaking out...found a 2006 Dude Pit DPLEII (BG+Darkstar) on ebay and hit the buy it now.
I currently own a lakland darkstar (from 2005 actually) and TODAY I was playing it, kind of wishing I had a jazz neck on it, kind of wishing I had block inlays, totally wishing it was white instead of 3ts. And well...
Now I'll have it all. Wowza. Freaking out. That being said, I'm going to mention my 2005 BG DS to ONE guy local, and if he passes it's up for sale...
Also, I've never officially signed up as a LOG here on TB. I always feel like my collection is shifting slightly, and I want to nail it down. I'm a weirdie. But I'm pretty sure I'm like...there. I have the Darryl Jones fretless+chi sonics with ebony/BEM blocks (you guys know the one? sex machine) and a USA Decade in 3ts with darkstars as well as this new DPLEII. I think my collection is SET.
Well I'm excited! Ahh!!!
Great score on the DPLEII
With a maple board a matching head looks out of place to me, sort of like the head is just floating there. But with a ebony, rosewood or similar darker wood board, a matching head to me looks ok.
For me, dark board + matching headstock = double plus good. Light board + matching headstock = 90's hair band![]()
I do hear that.
But still would rather have a matching HS on any board wood.
As my friend in the car biz always says:
"There is an ass for every seat"...( aka - to each his or her own, there is something for everyone )
I have a matching HS on my EBMM white pearl Big Al and it looks amazing and makes the bass. It has a very pale light tone maple neck and board.
+1, with one exception: the white DJ5 with maple board. It's the only one that makes sense.

No problem! Location has its benefits. As it turns out, Carl is on a well-deserved vacation this week, so I probably won't get a chance to see your new Lakie in person before it goes out the door. Hopefully for your sake, it ships out before Friday of next week.![]()
Oh yes, that's the stuff right there! I really like the way abalone stands out against maple.
Just noticed the DPLEII was the one I owned for a short time.
I traded it to the store in Texas who sold it to ya on feebay.
Small world.![]()

It is a lovely bass Doug, but to me at least, somehow the board just seems to be "floating" there in between the body and headstock like it's not part of the bass. Maybe if it had blocks, then it would have more visual weight and feel more "anchored" to the rest of the bass.
And all this time I thought we thought alike bart? LOL
Honestly the simple answer to the back and forth on matching or nekid, simply lies in the eye of the beholder.
If ya like it buy it , if ya don't den dat be dat mon.
I just happen to like a matching headstock on any board and all basses.
Even the black one on my flamed out USA Spector and USA Lakland HB look killer to my eyes. Just dislike nekid wood HS's.
As the aussies would say:
" Is what it is mate" lol![]()
This just in! The Lakness Monster lives! Coming together this week and shipping early next.

We do, but on some things we differ, which keeps things interesting![]()

I dig it, great colour! What serial # is it? Should be very close to my ice blue 44-94, which has impressed me the last couple of days by looks and playability. Still not sure about Barts or LH3 though. BTW, thanks to all about the comments about my bass. I'm very happy the way it turned out.
