I don't know when you got your Skyline, but they started to ship with D'Addario's around 2 years ago. The colored end balls give it away. Before that they would string them in Chicago with Lakland strings.

Well, mine are USA versions, not Skylines. They all come with "Lakland" strings. The question is who makes them for Lakland. Regardless, I prefer DR Lo-Riders and some other DR strings.

Thanks! I actually just sold the last of my Rays last month. After 30+ EBMMs over the years, I've discovered that passive sound is what I really like. I tried a Skyline 44-64 Custom and fell in love with it. The natural progression was to seek out a US model and boy did I really luck out last weekend!Hey man, Congrats on the Lakland score.

My 55-02 had EB regular Slinkies on it when I received it. It also came with a new set of Lo-Riders. If I try the Lo-Riders, what can I expect from them? The Slinkies are easy to play, and the sound is fine. Not sure if I want higher tension with the Lo-Riders. I've read the descriptions for each, but experience often tells more when it comes to the rubber meeting the road. Any wisdom to share before I start swapping?
There were D'addarios on every Skyline I've received for a while now, which is cool. Decent strings at a good price, so I don't blame Lakland for using them at all. The Lakland strings are okay also, but I typically prefer Hi-beams on all my Lakland basses except for the P variants where I like nickels or Chromes.
If you like to really dig into your bass and get that grindy sound the Lo-riders are not going to make you happy IMO. I have Lo-riders on my 44-02's and they are nice for slapping, but I'm not really liking the feel of the higher tension. I think that I still prefer the softer feel and warmer sound of the Sunbeams.
Just received a Skyline 44-01 with upgraded pups and preamp. Got it from a fellow TBer for an unbeatable price.
I'm simply floored by the playability of this neck. I have been dealing with arthritis in my hands for over a decade so have been seeking lower and lower action. The only bass that allows me to get the action as low as I like it is my Modulus Q5. Well that was until today - I was able to adjust the Skyline just as low.
I'm VERY impressed.
I hear that the difference between these necks and the US made counterparts is that there's no graphite reinforcement in the Korean ones? I imagine this means I'll have to check the truss rod more often?

I too am very impressed with my recent 44-01 acquisition. It does play very well, and is a very nice counterpart to my 55-02 tone wise. Additionally, I have had mine through some fall/winter weather changes so far and have had very little movement in the neck. Whenever I change strings I always give it a once over anyway with intonation, truss rod etc.

Yes...4 string Skylines do not have graphite rods, but never had to adjust my son's Skylines at all. Still very well made necks!

I have whittled my EBMM number way down too.
Went from like 12 or more of them in a few years down to only 3 I have now.
Lakland was mainly the reason for my liquidating them.
I sold off my 2 US Lakland passives...
I like the active Laklands ...
The US Scheff is becoming my favorite of the bunch I think.

I like active and passive but hate having to carry around two basses. I really like my new lakland with passive tone control for the bypass (and the chi-sonics really give the passive a good volume level) - I really can't tell which tone I like the best but can always switch between the two with a click of the switch.
