The electronics layout is pretty much the same as if it had a humbucker in the bridge and a single coil in the front position.


Just Chi sonic single coils instead.

I just bought a Lakland Skyline 44-02.
After playing it for two days all I can say is WOW!
I had no idea how great these instruments are.
Now I get it.
What a sweet piece of gear.
I am really quite thrilled.

Interesting! And that setup makes a lot of sense too. I could see myself really digging the neck/middle combo. If you have clips of that bass anywhere please feel free to share!

It definitely has a very different sound than a standard 4-94

The front pickup soloed has an enormous growl.


I've used it live and it cuts thru with the mix with a nice even sheen to it.

some of you have been following this bass, others may not care. But I've got it now, and put it through its paces at practice today with my main band, which is an eclectic one covering everything from folk rock to R&B to mainstream rock to Irish music. After 20 minutes of practice I switched from the Fender P below to the Lak, and never went back.

of course, that Fender is not a fiver, so the Lak is also replacing this EBMM Stingray HH 5:

the Lak did great, seems like a keeper.

OK, I'm in - the 35" P Lak arrived as the result of my trading my Fender Jazz. Here are some pics. I know there are LOG members who know this bass, which was a LOG build.

Very nice bass - gonna put flats on it and raise the action a little, though, and see where I go from there.

Well this is killing me. I am so upside down over the neck on my DJ5, that I have started pining for a 5P of some type. Being a meth head would be cheaper on the pocket book.

One thing I discovered after buying that Classic Ray, Dan, is that I didn't like transitioning from Lakland's small frets (which I really love) to the EBMM's bigger ones. Just a personal preference, I guess.

Yep...frets...neck profile....weight...
When I go back n forth between the Scheff...44-07 ....44-94 and a stingray or bongo...I can tell right away the difference.

I have played Roscoe, MTD, Fender, Sadowsky, Warwick and Musicman basses. Lakland just has that special touch that noone can get that feel except for them IMO/IME

I agree. Of course the usual IMO/YMMV, etc apply. But even the Skylines fit my hands/body juuust right.

I just love the Hanson pickups and pre's. I know some folks wax nostalgic for the "old Bart days", but I'm not looking back.

Here and there people have mentioned their personal choices.
Many like flats on theirs.
I like rounds on mine.
I have been using DR nickle low riders and am very happy.
