I know some folks wax nostalgic for the "old Bart days", but I'm not looking back.

I traded out the Bart setup in my 55-94 for the LH setup and prefer it to the Barts. A bit less dark, more clarity and punch and the high end is a bit extended but not boosted.

Yep...frets...neck profile....weight...
When I go back n forth between the Scheff...44-07 ....44-94 and a stingray or bongo...I can tell right away the difference.

My classic Ray is heavier, but I can't feel a difference when it comes to frets... they appear to be the same size wire or at least close. Neck dimensions seem the same also, but my left hand prefers the Lakland finish.. my eyes love vintage tint on maple though . My older Lakland birdseye has yellowed nicely though. The lack of body contours on the Ray are a negative, but to get the classic look and sound, it's worth it. All the new or unaltered EBMM basses I've played need the nut slots deepened. My US Laklands have always felt perfect.

I have played Roscoe, MTD, Fender, Sadowsky, Warwick and Musicman basses. Lakland just has that special touch that noone can get that feel except for them IMO/IME

I love old Barts but now know the appeal of the Hanson setup: versatility!

Originally white pg and black pup covers. The pg is officially matte black. It came with an unexpected white layer, but it looks great. Very pleased.

Further note: the strap and string thread matches quite nicely

I agree. Of course the usual IMO/YMMV, etc apply. But even the Skylines fit my hands/body juuust right.

Does anyone know if Lakland did anything special with the stock wiring on a Duck Dunn? The hum on mine is driving me crazy, here at home and at the last bar that I played. I reflowed all of the solders but the crackly hum persists and the wiring was slightly different that past p's that I have owned. It may be a bad ground here at home and at the bar, but I'm OCD about it none the less.

Ditto some little crackles on a 2007 Skyline DJ4. Comes and goes. Had a similar thing on a Fender 2011 Jazz. May have to resort to the copper foil. In my spare time...

hmmm....shielding may help...email [email protected] and see what suggestions Carl has....

I think the overwinding makes the pickup a little "hotter" and "throat-ier" with less highs and more mids. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

The extra knob is the second blend (J/J on one side and the P on the other).

What are the "Pedigo" basses? Are they a Lakland model?

welll...NOT "exactly"...Carl Pedigo was Lakland's first employee and a long time friend of Dan Lakin and the other guys. he recently started building his own basses and guitars under the "Carlo" moniker....

For mine, the body shape and innerds are Lakland/Hanson...the hardware is Hipshot and the neck is pure Carlo....I picked out the top wood myself but left the rest to him...

No. I didn't. Boo. Would have been great to see you. I was only up for a day. My dad is pretty sick and I had to cut the Chicago leg short. Southern Illinois is lasting an extra few days before I have to go back to work though.

Carl Pedigo is a longtime master luthier for Lakland who splits his time these days between Lakland work and his own business: http://www.chicagobassdoctor.com/

He's made a few basses that are variations on Lakland models, but of course it's Lakland's (and his) call on what he can do with the designs. He makes other instruments, too.

I have yet to order a bass from him, but I will one day. He's worked on my basses for 6 years, and is a superb craftsman and a great guy.

I predict "soon" Greg.....

as for his workmanship....superb is an understatement!

he does EVERYTHING on my basses...why do it myself when I can have an expert do it?

Just got this beauty off of TB a couple weeks ago. It's gotten SO much attention at the 4 shows I've played with it. At the last show I played a woman told me she wanted to have sex with my bass, and another woman said that it's the "absolute perfect bass". I kinda agree with her ....well, the latter one that is. I love my new bass but I'm not doing anything PG-13+ to it. The best thing (other than the fact that Chi-Sonics are by far the best pickups I've ever used) is the neck. J-width with a bit more junk in the trunk (if ya dig. Jazzes always felt to thin as in from the fretboard to the back of the neck, not as in the nut width. Jazz nut width is perfect). It's super smooth, the frets are the best I've played on (and I own a MIA EBMM), the binding and blocks are beautiful, the wood looks great. It's perfectly balanced. Mmmmmmmm.
