I've posted this bass before, probably about 60 threads ago.But I have modded it since so I thought I would post it again.
It's a 44-01D, several years ago I installed Nordstrand DCs in it, but left the MK1 preamp in. Unlike the Nordstrand 5 string DCs which fit the 55-01 pretty well, the Nordstrand 4 string pickups leave a pretty big gap on each end (1/8" or so) in a 44-01. I put up with it for a long time, but decided to take care of it last year. I had pickup rings made by fretsonthenet.net. They do really good work. It looks pretty good with them, certainly better than with the gaps.
Then a couple of months ago the preamp died, so I put in passive Vol/Bal/T/T. At some point I'm going to put a series/parallel switch in the empty hole, but for now I put a nylon plug in. Both pickups are hardwired in series, which is my favorite setting. It sounds really great.

WOW... need... one... like... this... AAAaarrrghhh... *drools*
I could see one of these as a 5 string unlined ebony fretless with matching black headstock. Then I'd just pass out, then drool.
I loved my DJ4 I had, but sold it to try some other basses. I regret selling that one....but, have since been back in the Lakland fam with a 55-01 and another on order now.
Love the DJ series both Skyline and American.
To appease the War Department, I had all but resolved to sell my DJ4, as it is one of (ahem) a few jazz basses including two Skylines. Then I played it some more. Rockin' bass, especially with flats. Keeping it!! And the others. They're all great and all different.![]()
No, Steve never actually offered my deposit back saying instead that he was unsure and unable to determine who it should be returned to.

Fantastic!!
I've had my DJ4 with Chis for a couple of weeks now. Still can't believe how light it is and the incredible quality. The Chis sound great through a hybrid amp, but man they make an all tube head absolutely sing!! Can't say enough about what a blast it is to play...
thank you....yup.. they are fun!
well....get ready to (almost) pass out....that is all.
PS -nope...not mine...
Beautiful face lift!! muchO better than that trans ummmm purpleish black...hahaha!!congrats!

It has finally arrived! Needs some minor setup adjustment, but it plays great. Loving the tone! Kills with my Streamliner 900. I knew it would. Strung with Lakland rounds.
Here are a few quick pix:
