Hope this is ok if I ask this question here, but I figure you all know your Laklands very well.

I put a set of Ernie Ball regular slinky 5 strings on my Lakland 55-60. When I put them on, the B and E string have the tapered (thinner part of the string) part resting in the nut. Those two strings seem to have more string buzz and its harder to set up the bass due to those two strings. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

Man, it has been FOREVER since I've posted. I'm headed out of town; but... I just got the JO back from Pat, who doweled the pickguard screwholes and refinished the bass in burgundy mist. It rules, so hard. I've got pickguards from it. When I get back into town, I'm going to cut the screws and glue them into the pickguard so they LOOK screwed in - but I'll just use tape... or something that won't mess up the finish.

Also, I saw my old Glaub on eBay last week and... its home now. Granted, I need to drop a different pickup in it and it had a tort pickguard on it. Not my thing. If anyone remembers, I was super bummed to see it go. Now, I've got the 3 Laklands I always dreamed of!

Not pictured is a CAR Darkstar Glaub, which I'm still on the fence about keeping. I've got an extra DS pickup, and have contemplated having them build me a new Glaub with it; but.... I've got one. I could just refinish it, and continue to hoard the extra pickup... or have TWO DS Glaubs. Decisions, decisions....

Edit: sorry about the crappy iPhone picture. I'm determined to buy a real camera someday.

Very nice! that CAR looks like straight red in the photo. I bet it looks awesome in person!

Mai Tai in the house, except it has a new name now.
This is now the "eye of God" bass. Sounds as good as it looks.

Whatever you do, keep the DS...they are getting rarer all the time....

maybe you can have another style bass made with the DS, have Pat refin the BG and be one Lakie even happier!

why are you on the fence about the one you have? if it is color oly, have Pat refin...you know the cost...cheaper than a new bass!

I can see where you might have an issue....are they strung through the body? If so, string through the bridge (top load) and you issue should be fixed....if they are top loaded, you may need to get longer strings....

They are currently strung through the body. I will string them through the bridge and see if that solves the problem. Thanks for the suggestion!

I just purchased my first Lakland bass on E-bay..The description had it listed as a "Lakeland" bass. While searching Ebay I happened to spell it wrong also. I was drawn to the matching head stock and noticed no lookers or bids. I also noticed the battery box on the back.This thing sounds awesome and plays like butter. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before.

Well guys, it's been an amazing day. I'm sure you guys have seen the (now) famous Carl Pedigo 34" scale "Carribean burst" 54-94 bass owned previously by Hollow Man, Kevdel, and nautipaul posted in this forum at one time or another.



I've owned it for about a year (already!) When i first got it, i had Carl mod it with single coil versions of the Lakland humbucking pickups. He also changed the nut from low B-G to E-high C.

.....well I'm in love. So for the last couple of months, I've been talking to Carl about giving this bass a sister. (A normal tuned low B-G bass)
So I was at the shop today setting up "Ramona" and we were talking about this and as it so happens he had a couple 34" necks made at the time the carribean bass was made. So it seems only fitting that necks birthed at the same time would be going on basses sitting in the same household....only years later! This is going to be fun! Mine will be the one in the center with the wonderful rosewood board

That will solve your problem. I have to go through the bridge in order to not have the same issue.

I take it you are keepin' the "eye of God" 44-07... This bass is about as unique as they come. The wood grain is nothing short of being top shelf. Thanks for the smooth/hassle free deal, Brother Man!

The only reason I'm on the fence about the DS Glaub is the color, so it'll probably head to pat for a refin. I'd been thinking shell pink, but am waiting to see Lee's (lpcarter) I'm person. Otherwise... Maybe something left field. Sonic blue? Candy Apple Orange? Or... I've always dug the international series of Fender Colors. A Sahara taupe DS Glaub could be 100% awesome! (Think melted chocolate ice cream).

I'm waiting for UPS to get around to delivering the 44-01 w/ LH3 and US Barts that I traded for, but in the mean time enjoying my other new acquisition.

It's a growling, honking monster that sounds pretty cool with LaBella flats on it.

Funny you should ask, because I was interested in the same question.

Well, you can see they share DNA, but the Lakland is much more orange, and the Lull more red, still, both stunning examples of Pat (and his paint shooter's) best work.

I am one lucky dude to own basses such as these.

Gary - The two look great together. That's one sweet looking Lull BTW, just may be worth looking into on day down the road.

Can anyone tell me the type of finish they use on the back of the Decade necks? I just remembered how nice the neck felt on the one I played a decade ago (no pun intended) and didn't know if it was satin, tung oil, or something else.

if it was a US Decade, it was probably an unfinished neck with wax/gunstock oil mix.

if it was a Skyline, it was probably a satiny finished neck

A 44-64 with bound and blocked Jazz taper necks and matching headstock used to be referred to as the Duck Dunn signature. I have an Oly White one, that I absolutely love.

Depending on the age of this one, its probably a Duck Dunn. Is this a Skyline or US, and what's the serial number?

Now the "empty" battery box is a bit of an enigma. It could mean that your bass was a prototype, or it also could mean it was made custom for somebody that way. Seriously, Ben Kenny of Incubus has his Laklands made with an empty battery box and he uses them as pick holders.
