To my ears,dark stars are ideal P pickup, lots of meat plus a little sizzle on top. But I probably would not like a dual-Darkstar jazz like a Decade or Hobo. Just me talkin pickups, if any otters want o chime in on their experience...

I've owned a 44-60 with single-coil Chis. I have to disagree with my buddy Gary, I didn't find the Chis bright--which is funny, because I'm sure some of the other basses he's owned (such as Sadowskys) would be too bright for me. Chis can be grindy, yes, but I felt the top end was actually kind of muted.

One thing most folks agree on is that Chis sound killer with flats. So if you want a flats bass, this could be your ticket.

I really appreciate your guys' input, but I have decided to list the bass for sale or trade. I have very deep concerns about the unfinished neck in my climate. I have had issues with it in the past and think that this bass will probably be better off in a different part of the country.

Bummer! US Lakland necks are great, and in my experience they're extremely stable.

There used to be a Lakland dealer in AZ--granted, it was Steve "Dude" Barr--and I don't recall Laklands having any neck issues there.

Definitely not trying to question the quality of the instrument or neck, it's just a concern based on some past history. Like I said, I am probably just not the right owner for this bass... Happens all the time to me on TB, that's half the fun!

Send it in, I'll cover true new neck if you can just get it here." Gave me a return authorization number as well. You guys were absolutely right! Lakland customer service is second to none. I knew I made the right choice when I decided to convert to Lakland basses. They've got a customer for life over here. Thank you very much to everyone that helped me along in this little adventure. I'll be sure to let you all know how it ends up!
