Howard's Orange Oil seems to agree with rosewood and with natural finishes in general. Doesn't smell like a fruit bowl...at least not to me!

I've had few of mine for 5+ years and the finish has worn through on a couple of them. It never thought that was a bad thing, but if there was some basic stuff I could do every once a while to help better maintain it, I would.
Please do. I'm with you--I like them even more played in like they are. Just wondered if this would help keep the neck healthy.
I clean my fretboards with 0000 steel wool, a toothbrush, wipe down the dust, and do a howard feed n' wax treatment. It makes the rosewood glow! Love the stuff. So far, I have only ever done it once per neck. Usually if it's an older used bass, and the rosewood is looking dried out.
Slight issue with Orange oil, it makes rosewood darker over time.
Not an issue for me (that's what I use) but some people may care...

Well, I did the neck treatment per the Lakland website.

I dig it.
I oiled the back of the neck, let it dry for a bit, and then applied the wax. I didn't use a whole lot of wax (maybe a quarter-sized dollop). I let it dry for 5 minutes (Lakland website says 5 min, Howard's says 20 min), and wiped off the excess. I let it sit for another 15-20 minutes and then oiled the fretboard. After another 15-20, I strung it up and well...
It feels like the day I got it. Fast, smooth, and 100% awesome. I could see myself doing this to all of my laklands once every year or two. To clarify, I didn't have any issues with the neck as it was - I was just curious.
I think, if you want your bass to feel new again, go for it. If your neck feels like an old friend: leave it.
I think I'll definitely do this to any incoming (used) basses I get, and then wear it in myself.

Carl Pedigo will be working on the neck of my 4-94 to address some minor scratches that simply bug me as they keep it from being "my perfect neck". I'll ask for his recommendation about this treatment too.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like it's not essential, but a good idea to do every now and then.
You can special order anything, but that's what's on the menu. What were you thinking? A translucent finish without a pickguard? Or an alder body with a quilt top?
Too bad they don't make a 66-94. I need a 6 string and would love it to be a Lakie.
My 44-94 is swamp ash. As mentioned noted you can special order.
What about the 60-11? Don't know if they're taking orders for it yet. Video Link
That won't work. I want a 44/55/66-94. The Peavey TL6 and Cirrus are the best 6 strings I have ever played. I think Lakland could make the best on the market. I just wish I was famous enough to call JP and say " hey, can you through and extra string on a 55-94?"
hi all - it's new cab day, not new bass day, but I thought I'd share this pic of my LOG 35" P fiver along with the stack of Bag End 15s I scored off a fellow TBer, along with the STM 900 that powers it all. With this Lak, the STM 900, and the stack of Bag End 15s, I am getting closer to my ideal sound. 
I love this bass and so does my primary band - the search is over in that regard. This bass covers the waterfront.

I just want the tone of alder/rose/wood. Would prefer a solid "fender" color. But really it's just the Alder.
