Oh I KNOW that for sure.
But honestly...I had the 44-07 and the US Scheff first. Got to love them both a good amount ....
I do love the 44-94.
Most beautiful bass I own.
BUT, last in is first out.

So I am letting someone else own her.
And using the money for a Lens I will use all the time and must buy for the workshops I teach.

Also most if my Lakies were bought for a logical reason....although some of the logic came after the purchase....

Yeah, I'll have to figure it out. Love the nordys, but not really what I was going for with the JO. I was under the impression that the chisonics were like the old hagstroms or darkstars... Am I wrong?

My US JO purchased used had a J Retro. I immediately brought it to Lakland and had them "re-passive" it back to orginal specs with concentric knobs, etc. Original specs is the way to go on a US JO (or Glaub for that matter).

Bummer! US Lakland necks are great, and in my experience they're extremely stable.

There used to be a Lakland dealer in AZ--granted, it was Steve "Dude" Barr--and I don't recall Laklands having any neck issues there.

I may have jumped the gun... I got the neck dialed in and it is F A S T and smooth... Pickups are still a point of contention, but that is easy to rectify. I did the same thing with my Roscoe earlier this year... made a decision without dialing it in.

Yeah... I also talked to someone about the unfinished neck I had that started to spit the frets out and he told me that the wood used by that particular manufacturer is crap. I really want to like this bass! Its so nice and the fretboard is to die for.

that neck aint no crappy wood....

Calling a US JO neck "unfinished" is not accurate. It has a hand rubbed oil finish with a thin wax coating. The "FAQs" section on Lakland's website explains how to maintain it.

I have since learned that this is the case and been reassured by someone that the neck will not be an issue in Az... Thanks for the help though.

Hey Tim, I don't do anything myself. I currently have two US Laklands and have owned them for almost 4 years and 15 months, respectively, and haven't noticed any differences in the finishes so far.

We have at least a few LOGers who are far more devoted to caring for their Lakies than me, though, so I expect they'll have some advice.

I've been curious about this myself. I ordered some orange oil & wax from Amazon yesterday. I think I just got Howard's orange oil and wax (I think the Lakland website recommends Howards Feed n Wax). I'll post my findings!

I typically just use lemon oil on the fretboards, but have been curious about the back of the necks too.

That said, I feel like they get a nice patina from the oils on your hand. It adds that personal touch and, IMO, there's something special about grabbing a bass that has all of your.... (we'll call it "mojo") mojo on/in it.

I actually use food-grade mineral oil on the fretboards - which I also use to treat cutting boards in the kitchen. Works great and doesn't smell like a fruit bowl.
