I will say that the white 44-64 Custom is cool, but if I drop $3700 on a bass it will come with a 6 month wait...

In related news, I spent most of the weekend getting to know the seafoam 44-64. 1.75 neck is no problem and actually quite comfortable and the bass sounds killer, even unplugged its just "live."

Oh, and about the whole "nickname" thing, the 2 US Laklands I have acquired with actual dollars are keepers. Goldie was acquired in trade and I am very grateful I got it when I did as it opened up my eyes. I have been very lucky to acquire the current three. And the Skyline was a great bass too, but up next to a US model it was lacking certain elements. Much happier with the US Glaub. And, bonus, its my first "really good" p bass.

Haha, she seems to be handling it, in part because I've sold/traded a fair amount of some stuff out. I'm up to 5 Laklands at the moment! One is presently for sale, but I probably need 2 gone. Just have no idea which to part with! And of course I have 2 targets in my sights. (But one is an EBMM!)

Got the Audere 4-band installed into my DJ5 today. So far, I'm really liking it. Very smooth install with the exception of when I drilled the plate, I did not allow enough room for the Z switch guts to fit without hitting against the control cavity. The ol' Dremel tool solved that issue but my skills are pretty amateur - luckily covered by the plate.

Nice. I emailed Lakland today about getting a spare plate for DJ4 so I can preserve the original. Maybe not necessary...

I was pretty worried about messing up the plate but the drilling was the easiest part of the whole deal. I spent awhile on the install but I also shielded the pup cavities and some of the control cavity - I ran out of tape before being done.

I just went in there and plinked around for a minute more and I noticed that I'm getting a popping noise from the neck pup when it's pressed down. I'm assuming that it has to do with the ground wire that's under the pup. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

Did you use a drill press or just a drill? I don't have a drill press and don't think I know anybody that does. :(

I've drilled through control plates before with a Makita hand held drill driver and metal bit. Just hold it perpendicular to the surface and let the bit do the work - don't press hard let the weight of the drill "push" the bit. Also, I put a block of wood underneath and clamped both to a work surface - you don't want the plate moving around on you.

Just a regular corded drill. Secured the plate to wood using the normal screw locations and also had the wood secured so it wouldn't move. Nothing to it. Just make sure you don't put the 1/4 inch hole for the Z-mode switch too far away from the knobs - it'll run out of cavity room quick. For the LED, used a 1/8 bit because I didn't have a 3mm handy worked just fine.
