PS - I try to do as you say...but alas I am male and fail...but I try...

10 or 12 weeks ago my wife went to the doctor for her routine checkup. One of the tests came back abnormal...fast forward to 2 weeks ago, she had a hysterectomy. We had the follow up today and got the pathology report, her entire cervix was pre-cancerous with several spots of cancer. None of this had invaded her lymph nodes. The Dr. said had we waited a week longer for the surgery, the outcome would have likely been much different. She is cancer free with no chemo or radiation. She was so lucky, blessed or whatever you want to call it. We are both so relieved. I can't imagine what those who have gone through this with more invasive cancer feel like. Every moment with her during this hellish time has been a surreal mix of "is this the last time that she and I will do this?" and "what will I do if she doesn't make it" or "how will I comfort the kids". I was not this scared the entire time that I was deployed to the mid-East...I'm not sure why I am posting this here, it's therapeutic I guess. Love your wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, husband, whatever you have like there is no tomorrow. Embrace every moment. My beautiful Stefanie is going to live and I can't stop crying because I am so happy.

...to keep with the gist of the thread I'm selling a 44-02D. Not sure why, I think I want something with Chi-sonic humbuckers.

as for legs etc "giving up" in a short time...I know all too well...my mom was in a bed for 3 weeks and she had to go through intensive PT to get walking and driving again ...granted she is in her 70s....

Lost the following to cancer (in order):
Sister
Step-Mom
Dad
Aunt (within the past few weeks)

A few friends have it and are going through treatment...VERY tough going.

That is great news and you both are very lucky.

I am in week 7 (actually last 3 days) of Radiation and chemo and it has been brutal the last few weeks. All cancers are different and treatment regime is tailored to one's specific circumstances. Non smoker and non abusive drinker but cancer found its way to my tonsil anyway. Tonsil was removed on march 7 (my birthday...) and got the call 3 days later confirming it was cancer. because of where it is the tonsil touches lots of things around your throat area so the radiation for 33 days with chemo mixed in as an added "we didn't see it anywhere else besides the throat area but we do this as a precaution". fast forward to now and ytreatments are ending... never thought i would see the other end but i am convinced that positive attitude helps dramaically in dealing with the issue. My doctors all said i should lose 20-25% of my body weight. Started out about 206... so far i have lost about 6 pounds as i have just refused to give in. Plus if you stop eating, chewing and swallowing atrophies very quickly and that will slow down recovery time dramatically... which is why Sloane will not do feeding tubes as most others do..But Slaone is one of only several places that set the protocal so I ma sure they will change in the next few years.

2 observations from this ordeal as well as learning who your friends really are.....

Lots more well wishers and nice guys on TB than i expected as so many threats seem to bring out the ass hole side in some people. and believe or not simple stuff like that helps you get though each day...
How quickly leg muscles can atrophy if you become bed ridden for any period time. I am not bed ridden but I do try rest in a reclyner most of the time i am not being treated, examined....etc and I can physically see a huige differnce in my legs and arms already.

2 more days .....wish me luck

I am NOT a flats guy but have a set of Sadowsky flats on my Dragonfly acoustic (it needs flats or it is "clanky")...I have another set "in reserve" for a "project"....

Are the lakland flats better or same as the GHS for less money. I know labella makes sadowskys flats but they are a different spec that Roger wanted. Not sure what the ghs/lakland situation is.
i want to put some flats on my Skyline HB and normally i use labellas but i think this bass wants to have more zing..... and i don't think the floppy TI's would fell right on this bass.

Agreed that cancer sucks.

I'm not going to try to top these two stories, because they are all true and all heartfelt, and all deserving of respect.

Just trust me when I say that cancer's got to go.

1 week from tomorrow my family departs on a 2-week vacation to Orlando and Western Carribean cruise. the cruise we wanted to take last year but had to cancel due to Deanna's health. this year, we're going no matter what, and Deanna's so much stronger. But its a ticking time bomb inside her, with no cure or positive prognosis. So we're going to literally party like its 1999 on this one. CARPE DEIM indeed!

I just spent some time putting my HB through my new (to me) Ampeg SVPCL tube preamp. It would seem that tubes and hollow bodies go reeeeally well together. I starts fooling around with the settings on the amp, and 2 hours later its 11 pm.

nice...time flies when you are with a Lakie and Tubes....maybe I need some solid tube ampage!!!! My amp has a tube preamp and it is nice but not all tube!

funny semi-related story....I was practicing for church the other week and the clock in my office was slow (working but the battery was dying ...LOG clock BTW!)...when I looked at the clock it said 8 PM but it was actually 10:30...I had played for over 3 hours and it felt like 1/2 hour....

About bass names...
I wanted to show ya the grain/quilting that dubbed this US Scheff " The Hands of God ". ( named along the way by someone else )

Did not want to post the pic on Brian's thread and have him beat me upside da head with a black bass....hahaha!!

You can see in the quilting about mid bass, the "hands" laying across the bass coming in on both sides....Looks like fingers reaching into the bass.
Very unique grain in the wood and quilting for sure.

man...LOVE the look of that bass....wish I could have kept it!

I just put some on my 44-64... Playing by myself I thought "meh, they're flats" playing with a group however, I found they sat in a mix like I haven't heard others do... Very nice, very smooth... Thumpy and round but not dull or bitey like chromes.

you know....I have not (until recently) really played flats with a band...in the past it was always just me and recordings....they were replaced quickly.

now my JO5 fretless has JO flats on it and it sits extremely well in the mix....hence the willingness to try an "experiment"....more details to come (Soon....I hope!)

That is sweet lookingh bass. Are those the Kent Armstrong lipsticks or were they made by Hanson for lakland back when they were 2 companies. How do they sound compared to lipsticks and chi's???

Armstrong's....VERY different that a CHI....I just got a Scheff recently and love the sound...got lots of compliments on it the first time I played it as well...

I need opinions...Last night while admiring the look and sound of the Chi-sonic pups on the net, I began to wonder about replacing the pups in one of my 44-02's with a chi-sonic single and humbucker. I know that I would have to do a bit of routing on the single coil for it to fit, but what would it sound like?

Anyone care to speculate?

Also, anyone know of the price? I'm assuming around $250 for both.

well....you CANNOT match a single CHI with a humbucker CHI ( I asked many times....)

...Also not sure if any humbucker CHIs are being made any more...although I hear Carl "may" be able to put a set together if asked nicely.....

I would make the investment and make your 44-02 a 44-07....with a coil tap switch...oh...and a passive tone control...jus' sayin'...

cost? not sure.

From what I recall, the Chi-Sonic single coil does not "play nice" with the humbucker, so that combo isn't viable, as appealing as it is!

It seems there is now a drop-in "J" style Chi-Sonic single coil (Lowendmafia might chime in on this) that you could install without routing. I have no idea if that will work in combination with the Hansen (or do you have Barts?) humbucker in your 44-02.

It's day after NBD for me so here's a crappy office shot:

I snuck out at lunch for a set up (it was unplayable) and will use it at gig tonight. After 5 (or is it 6?) new-to-me Laklands in the last 6 months, I think this one will be a keeper.

I think a new pickguard (black abalone? red or brown tort? suggestions and/or mockups welcome!) and an Audere preamp will happen sooner. Maybe Chi-Sonics later since I just missed a great chance.

The new-to-me DJ was pretty awesome last night for blues gig. Gig, not so much.. I thought I outgrew guitarist primadonna irritation 15 or so years ago... maybe time for a new blues band..

But yeah the DJ played, weighed, and felt great. Didn't cut through 2x guitars, sax, harmonica, drums as I'd like but I got dialed in eventually. With pre and/or pickups I have In mind, my search my be over. For now..

Nothing you guys haven't seen before but, I just bought a new Skyline DJ5. Only been a few days but I'm really liking this bass. I've had a 55-02D before that I liked but we ended up parting ways to finance another bass.

This would ruffle some feathers elsewhere in the forum, but I've had 3 Sadowsky basses - 2 Metros and an NYC - and I'm liking this Indonesian built Skyline better. Neck is a better fit for me, love the DJ body and the passive sound through the Lakland singles is great! The setup out of the box was spot on. Also, from what I've read about fluctuating weights on the Skylines, I lucked out and got a light one. Haven't had a chance to weigh it for the official, but it feels sub 9 pounds - it's noticeably lighter than my 9.5 pound Roscoe.

Have an Audere DJ 4-band on the way which should make this bass unstoppable - though it really is great passive.

I feel the same way..>Sadowsky's and I do not mix well...feel etc....they are excellent instruments but I love th Lakie necks MUCH better.....

mix the DJ with a nice pre-map and you have a winna winna...
