Nothing you guys haven't seen before but, I just bought a new Skyline DJ5. Only been a few days but I'm really liking this bass. I've had a 55-02D before that I liked but we ended up parting ways to finance another bass.
This would ruffle some feathers elsewhere in the forum, but I've had 3 Sadowsky basses - 2 Metros and an NYC - and I'm liking this Indonesian built Skyline better. Neck is a better fit for me, love the DJ body and the passive sound through the Lakland singles is great! The setup out of the box was spot on. Also, from what I've read about fluctuating weights on the Skylines, I lucked out and got a light one. Haven't had a chance to weigh it for the official, but it feels sub 9 pounds - it's noticeably lighter than my 9.5 pound Roscoe.
Have an Audere DJ 4-band on the way which should make this bass unstoppable - though it really is great passive.

^^^Man, white, pearloid, maple, white blocks and binding, matching headstock...that thing looks like it was made by Godiva.
Very nice. Some of these Skylines are truly fantastic. I have had several, and right now my plain 5502 is better playing than about anything I have had in my hands. Though, I will admit I have not played a US lakkie. Is this the Princess Leia to your Avatar?

Yeah, I had a white DJ5 with rosewood board. Played just as good as my US Laklands. I prefer maple A LOT more than rosewood, so I sold it :-(. Someday I'll have one just like yours.
This is the best I can do right now. I have had limited time at night and have spent those free moments playing this guy and not photographing it. Stunning bass all around and the neopunch is not as aggressive as I remember. It might stay in there.

hmmm..interested to hear more about the differences between the two...I have always used Pat but others are "Marty Fans" (why do I think of Back to the Future as I type that?)

not much yet...just "they are coming"....I have been meaning to call him but have been slammed.....
the pre-amp itself is on a board but the knobs are wired with some leeway....
why do the knobs differently?

In other news, the glaub is KILLER. lollipop tuners vs clover. I'll do a headstock shot later.
The HB doesn't actually have the bridge or knobs attached yet but I set em on for the shot
I'll go into the details of why I felt that Marty's job wasn't up to Pat's par later but I wanna say that I fully endorse Marty and I will do business with him again. The details aren't huge but I'll let you guys know.

after playing Tom P's HB with the new vintage doubles last week, I think they would sound GREAT in a single P body config...or maybe even a double P config.....hmmm....ideas ideas...

Well, junk. My soldering experiment didn't exactly work.
Here's what I'm noticing. The bridge volume is wack. It makes no sound at 100% on, but turn it down some and it works.
Did I burn it out? Or maybe it's a wiring / ground issue? I should probably head over to the proper forum, but I like you guys better

I think they are Lakland standard stainless strings...they are on most other Lakland Basses.....I would bet the flats are Lakland JO Flats...kind of tough to come by....Lakland always seems to be out of stock on them...they DO get them in but the incoming always seem to fill back orders!

I told Carl once that if I win the lottery, I'll come study under him... be his apprentice. Other than performing live, building basses is a real passion I'd like to explore.
that would be cool! I do not think I am "particular enough" to do that....
if I became independently wealthy I would convince every bass player I admire (or band I want to learn) to teach me some of my favorite songs "just the way" they play them....(that is if they are still alive and they are willing to take some "reasonable payment" for a day or two of "lessons").
It's been a long time, but my baby got some action in the studio this weekend! Granted, it was my photo studio, but thought that you guys would appreciate this rough version of something that I'm working on.
And just so you know, the juices are flowing and I'm actually putting a little something together to start playing again. It's been WAY too long!

Single coil Chi sonics (like in the 44 60) in the standard jazz bass position( like ben kenney's bass)+ 44-94 classic pickguard in white (again like ben kenney's bass)
Passive--> 3 knobs, black fluted like the skyline decade.
I think it would look rad!
