Alright guys, I put the long scale neck back on my decade so I could hear the alnico chis with a standard neck. I dig it! And then i decided that I should keep that bass original (as in, body to neck...the pups stay!) and the short neck is headed back to Lakland for a new body..

call me crazy

so now I'm plotting endlessly.

Idea #1: Decade body, J Mascis purple sparkle finish (matching headstock) Invalid Link Removed probably cream pearloid pickguard

Idea #2: Bob Glaub body, Chi pup in the sweet spot

Idea #3: Throw it on a JO with Chis, ala Ben Kenny

...thoughts? Besides that I have a problem?

Nice pair! I'm sure that Glaub sounds and plays as good as it looks!

Lies. You would paint them black and call them Black and Blacker.

Maybe Dunkel und Schwarz

But I would NOT paint over natural grain.

Solid finishes are fair game though.

My new "Lakland Corner." 2002 US Glaub with Jazz taper... and the 2004 Skyline hollowbody that arrived from a TBer this very afternoon.

Tort would look good. I'd planned to get a new guard after buying the bass in early 2012, but the pearloid white has grown on me. And to get a new PG for a 2002 Glaub, I'd have to remove this one and send it off for a template. Not worth it to me.

Depends on who you have make it. Some want the actual pickguard (Jeannies), while others can work from tracings (Terrapin Guitars) IME.

That's a tough one but... I'd choose idea #1 with three Chis. Oh yes I would.

I'm getting a tort guard for a Glaub from Mike Quick. I'll let you know how it looks. Also, I'm pretty sure Jeannies had that template. For me personally, I order from Mike because I like him better.

its new, but Mike already has several templates for them. He can also do a custom PG from tracing. Both my JO CS and my recently sold skyline have PGs from him. He's also really great to deal with and really puts a lot of time into his work.

Three chis would SEEM over the top, but when we're talking about a purple sparkle short scale decade, it just might be perfect ...!
