OK TB'ers, I got the new 55-60 from Bass Central and it has issues. Truss rod appears to be either maxed or at a minimum it feels like it will break if I try to turn it, and the passive electronics have a problem as well (the volumes seem to be shorting each other out). I called Bass Central (my sales guy was out, and the guy I got was not exactly concerned). He directed me to Lakland. Leo at Lakland was awesome, but based on what I told him he agreed the neck needs replaced and they can fix the electronics. So, it can be fixed, but this is a NEW bass.
The issue is this is a limited edition color. So, if I want the color I have to fix it. Else return it and get a different Lakland (like the white DJ5).
What would you do? Send it to Lakland to get it repaired or return it and get something else? Carrots?
It figures...I violated my own first rule of never buying a new guitar or bass.

Assuming they will pay for shipping both ways I'd have it replaced. They had better pay for any related shipping charges, though. I love my new DJ5......I'll check the truss rod later!
So they will pay shipping and fix it, or they will replace it, is that the scenario? I would get it fixed because of the limited edition color, either that or get your money back from Bass Central, which should also be an option.
Lakland already told me they will make it right and replace the neck. I am sure I could also return it for a refund. Thanks for the input. My Facebook friends are all chiming in that they love the color.
It turns out the larger B string fit just fine due to the string taper.
And, whoa, 0.150 is huge. Can you see the original B string?
It's different up here because UPS won't accept a drop-off that's being paid for south of the border or something, but Lakland had me return the bass they were replacing to my dealer and they paid for the shipping from the dealer home, then sent me a new bass on their dime. I'd day you can expect to not pay the shipping.

Let Lakland take care of it. They made it, they'll fix it, and I bet you'll be pleased with their customer service.
Truss nuts can feel stuck when they've not been turned in a while. I'd back it out and lube the threads. But I guess there's other neck issues???? A twist maybe?
Hmmm. Interesting thought. I think at this point I am still better having Lakland look at it. They have to fix the wiring anyway.

Doesn't surprise me. I've made exactly one purchase from BC. Asked for the lightest of the three units they had in stock. Big bucks. They sent me a lovely Precision that weighs 9 pounds 14 ounces with covers on.
That 55-60 is killer to look at. I can see why you'd want to get it fixed instead of returning. Service after the sale is the real measure of a company IMO. Good thing it's a Lakland!
I have had a few truss rods be very stiff on Skylines. Does it turn stiff when you loosen it? It may just need some turning on it. Leo will take care of you though for sure. Very outstanding guy.

I have bought one bass from BC. It will be the last bass I buy from there. The neck was twisted and in bad shape. They said it was just fine. Tuner was broke too. The gear was stripped. Not sure how that could happen, but hey, I've seen all kinds of weird stuff.
Wow that is huge!! What is it doing to your neck? Is it pulling just that side up?
Wow! That's pretty scary dude! I'm not in the US so a friend of mine who has no idea about basses and guitars will be picking up a DJ5 for me soon. Should I be concerned about this?
I'll tell you whats scary - if it was a large supermarket style music store that sold u this bass, I'd at least understand it.
But this was Bass Central - one of the best and most trusted bass retailers out there!
I admit I had a hard time at first telling blindfold which bass is which in the first vid, but the more I watched, the clearer was the difference.Personally, I think maple vs. rosewood makes little to no difference tonally--particularly compared to pickup and string choice--so I'd just got with what looks best to you and proceed from there.
