Took the new 55-64 to a jam Sunday night and was able to go out front and hear it while someone else played it.

Really like what I heard. To me, that 35" scale takes a P bass to a new level. It's almost like hearing a modern classic. It has what I like about P basses and none of what I don't like. It is kinda hard to explain it, but it's almost not what you expect to hear from it by looking at it. The guy playing it didn't really care for it, but he's a Fender endorser and die hard 4 stringer so I guess he's not suppose to like it. (On a side note, he doesn't like any of mine or anyone else basses either, so I don't put a whole lot of merit into his opinion). Any way, really diggin' this bass.

Hey guys, just had a quick question for you:

I'm gearing up to order a US 44-51 in the next 3 months, and I'm a bit torn between getting the neo punch model or the Vintage single..

I'm very familiar with split pups and not so much with the P singles. I think I would dig the extra clarity of the single, but wonder, do they still retain that unmistakable "thump" that the splits put out?

P.S: an average pic of my amazing fretless 44-01:

A question for all you 5 string players here. Lakland 5'ers are 35" scale basses. Hence, do you guys use medium gauge strings (45-105, etc.) or go down a gauge due to the longer scale.

Also, could you please tell me what strings you use?

Thanks!
