The only shortcoming to a tube amp is weight. The ones I like more than make up for that with tone.

Yup, I really dug that one, too. As JJ said, they're called Bardens. I'd never heard of them before, and haven't really seen any TBers using them. Perhaps undiscovered gems...
She's not beat up. She probably has less dings than most basses half her age. But, the nitro did what nitro does, it crackled. I love it!
I always thought my Fender Jazz bass sounded good during live shows...it was blown away by my DJ5! I didn't want to switch instruments during the sets!
OK, fellow Lakland guys...I need some input. I will probably call Lakland as well as I am jonesing to pull the trigger. I currently have a Korean 55-01 with USA Barts and Preamp. I absolutely love the feel and playability of the neck. I decided it is time for Lakland #2. I was totally going the 55-02 route but after playing it the electronics just didn't speak to me. I then played a few jazz bases and pretty much decided I need a jazz.
Now for my question...I have narrowed it down to either a 55-60 or a DJ5. DJ5 in white just blows me away, but I have not found one locally to try. I know the body is a bit smaller, but my question is on the neck. I understand it is different than the standard Lakland 5 neck. Either bass will get a J-Retro or Audere...and may even get Fralins. So, it comes down to how the neck feels.
How much different is the DJ5 neck from the standard Lakland 5 neck?

This discussion happened recently, I think, and I thought Lakland said they were identical, though several on here felt they could feel a difference. I love my DJ5 so far. Granted, I've only had it a week, but it blew my Fender away at the last gig. If you're ever around then Greenville, SC area, send me a PM and I'll let you try mine out.
Thanks. I know the official spec says it is a flat 14 radius vs. the 10-13 compound radius on the regular 5s. Honestly that is probably good for me as I like my action almost stupid low.

It's been a while since I've owned a DJ5, but I definitely felt a difference. Always felt like the back of the neck was rounder than the typical Lakland profile.
Thanks. I talked with Brian at Lakland today. He pretty much said he can't tell the difference. The white DJ5 is calling to me so I guess I am going to take the plunge!
I felt a difference between the DJ5 neck and US necks. I had a 55-94, USJO5, and DJ5 at the same time and the DJ5 felt like it had the closest buzz-free action... just barely. And, I thought the nut was a little narrower too. Zero complaints! In fact, I'd like another one someday.
Well, I was all set to pull the trigger on the White DJ5 and then found a Teal Green 55-60 that totally blew me away at Bass Central in Florida. Needless to say that after a quick call this one is on it's way to a new home in Georgia. the DJ5 may still come down the road, but my J GAS looks to be sated.
