He did mention it. I'll probably get one eventually but I was hoping to snag one on ebay for 55% of the price. :D


blues gig tonight. not really feeling it. still in island mode i guess!
quick rehearsal last night illustrated clearly that i'd not touched my bass in 3 weeks.

what to play a ukulele and wear a grass skirt ? :eyebrow:

I am going all acoustic tomorrow...sadly - all Lakies stay home :scowl: :(

BTW - LOG MUCH closer to reopening....

getting last minute stuff handles....LOooooong Skype call last night.....sorting out some security and other issues...

Good morning- Anyone familiar with the neck radius/contour shape of Lakland 5-string basses? In your experiences, do Sadowsky or Lull necks play/feel similar?

**Okay, just checked the Lakland website, should had done that before. Still, which luthiers have similar necks? Would like to know which of the Lull or Sadowsky metros would feel most like a Lakland. (Already have an amazing passive DJ5 that plays like butter and am looking for modern-sounding Jazz)

If you dig the DJ5 so much, why not either get another one and stick a pre in it, or (cheaper solution) add an outboard pre like the Sadowsky?

What fun would that be?

I recently ordered a Roscoe LG that is superbly built and sounds wonderful (didn't expect it to do a J-bass tone) but the neck just doesn't work for me. Lakie necks do but I'd like to branch out and try something different. Life is too short to be limited to one or two basses.

I live 3+ hours from any decent bass shop so trying them is going to be difficult and I haven't seen a Lull around to get my hands on.

First, you must understand that I prefer fours to fives and do not currently own any 5s, just a 35 inch scle Spector Euo that I strung BEAD when the song calls for it.

Lull 5er necks were the most comfortable I ever played, for me and my hands, really the only ones that have worked for any length of time. Something about the profile,,flatnesss top to bottom. I tried several Skyline fivers and Musicman fivers before the Lulls. All the Sads I have owned (Metros and NYCs) have been fours, but I have played several 5s at stores that I liked, but never enough to take home with me.

If you are looking for an active Lull jazz, I would recommend the TC5 over the MV5, I have a TC4'that I just love everything about. You can get it in split coils or single coils with the OBP-3 and mid switch. It stacks up very much like the Sad Will Lee model. A really good bass in its own right ( and yes, I have a Metro Will Lee to compare it to).

I just realized I spent 20 minutes writing about non-Laklands in the Lakland thread, will you forgive me my brothers?

I still love my two, Mai Tai and Dark Bob. Do what they do very well too.

As for others with similar necks.....nope!
That is one if the unique things about lakies!

Like others have said...get another DJ and put a preamp in it...

Played that show with the laser band a few days ago, someone took this cool iPhone photo (it has a filter on it...the bass is sonic blue normally)

The green room was one of my favorites ever. Good green rooms are always a highlight for an introvert in a rock band :bassist:
