Lakland Owners Group #69

Have a question about the size holes for the tuners on the Lakland basses. 3/8 or 1/2 size holes. Wanting to change the Ultra Lite gray tuners and go with the chrome ones to match rest of the chrome hardware on this headstock.

USA Series: Hipshot USA 3/8" tuners (only on 5-string basses, 4 strings are not Ultralites)
USA Classic: Hipshot LIC 1/2" tuners
Skyline: Hipshot LIC 1/2" tuners
All of them have chrome clover leaf keys.

Your bass seems to have been retrofitted with 3/8" Y-key LIC tuners. Not only they don't look good on this bass, they are probably only held in place by the tension of the nut, as there is space between the tuner and the wood. Take one off and you'll see what I'm talking about. Not ideal. You are right about replacing them.

Checked one of them and you are right! Should have the 1/2" tuner shaft. Got this as unfinished project, and it was an unfinished project! Ordering the correct ones today. Glad my OCD got me want to match up everything chrome. Thanks!

Asking as someone who prefers 18mm bridge spacing - is it possible to get an 18mm bridge from Lakland or modify the existing one? I don't think I'd want to replace the Lakland bridge with some other brand, but I would like the narrower spacing.

EDIT:
This is for a 5-string if it makes a difference.

Maybe order the threaded saddles and place the strings at 18mm . That could be the cheapest was to go about it .

Speaking of tuners, I replaced my 1/2 inch Lic. Ultralites for USA 1/2 inch Ultralites. There was a very very slight diff in size. Easily fixed by slightly sanding the hole. Fit like a glove now with better finish than the satin.

Nice! For the next time... Hipshot can provide you nuts/bushings that adapt a US Ultralite tuner to a LIC Ultralite hole. Talk to Oscar at Hipshot.

Yes, they did that for me on another, non-Lakland, Bass. Hipshot are, in my mind, the best hardware company out there! Always had fantastic interactions with them!
