44-02 Skyline Quilted 3TSB this evening. I had a pickguard for the 44-02 that I had to let go,for various reasons. Thought I would share pictures of with and without pickguard,no holes. I ordered pickguard from Lakland store. Use double sided tape to hold in place. It doesn't effect the finish if you decide to remove.

Beautiful! Congrats! I would use the pickguard. It goes nicely with that finish.

Wow a real beauty! great score man! ditto on the pickguard although the top is so nice as is - I don't use picks on my basses, but it's a classy look :)

Hey all, I have a couple of questions about the various models.

55-94 vs 55-02: apart from cosmetics and neck finish, are they the same from a sound and feel perspective?

What are the the sound differences between 55-02 and 55-01?
5501 has different pups & preamp form '02 and USA models....good value but a notable step down. Yes IME '02 and USA models with the same pups sound the same....better details/fretwork on USA models.....by a wide margin IME. My USA 44-54 is built on par with a USA Sadowsky, etc. Whether the incremental build quality matters enough to justify the $$$$ is subjective.

Any 55-60 owners here? I'm looking at one in the classifieds, never played one in person but I remember my DJ4 was amazing. I'm basically looking for Pro's and Cons because it would put me over my bass limit.

I'm also curious about the nut width and the string spacing at the bridge.

I've owned several...Skylines and USA.

loved them all...

The buddy is larger than a DJ ... So it might " feel" a bit different to you when playing.

I'm not by my bass right now so I can't measure...

One of mine is a fretless with an Lh3... Sounds great!

I'm more interested in the neck. Of course my DJ was only a 4 so there is that difference. I'm Gassing hard here becuase it's a beautiful bass, but do I actually need it? No.
LOL

FYI Guitar Center is doing 24 month financing on used instruments over $299 on their credit card with 0% interest. I got my Lakland through GC used, it's nice to be able to return it within 45 days to a local store without having to deal with shipping. Needless to say I did NOT return mine and is now my main player.

You will get many thoughts on this and I will give my .02 worth as well......haha! The 55-94 vs 55-02 debate has been going for years. Owning both US and Skylines tone wise they are pretty identical since they both use the LH3 and Lakland pups. The big difference is the body woods and neck options you have with the US over the Skylines and the US basses are typically much lighter. The neck feels a little different as well, but not a major difference. The frets on the US basses are done by hand compared to the Skylines which are PLEK'd. I will not say that one is superior because in an A/B test like I mentioned earlier they sound pretty darn close to each other. I am happy with both my US and Skylines.

Now as far as the sound differences between the 02 and 01 there is a difference because the pups/pre in the 01 are Bartolini MK1. The 02 has the LH3/Hanson pups/pre. I personally LOVE the MM/J pup configuration over the dual soapbars. To me the 01 is a hyped up J bass sound.
