I owned one of these relic'd 44-64 PJ's up until very recently. It was by far the best-playing bass I've ever owned, and it was heartbreaking to let go of it. As soon as I can afford it financially again, I plan on buying another.

The fretwork and build quality was immaculate, and the neck was hands-down the best neck I've ever played. It's smooth, fast, and incredibly stable. Since mine was a PJ, it had a jazz neck (I just don't get along with 1.75" P necks). You can just feel the labor and love put into the neck profile and playability.

Tonally, it was a PJ, nailing all 3 tones you'd expect from any Fender, Nash, etc. I had zero complaints about Lakland's in-house pickups, they gave me everything I could have wanted and expected. The only issue I ever had was that there was a little hum, so I had to shield the pickup cavities and back side of the pickguard.

As soon as I started playing it, I felt right at home. It just felt like it was meant to be in my hands, it felt broken in but not beaten, and it was inspiring and fun to play. You really won't be disappointed if you decide to buy it!

May i join the club? But i only have Lakland japan series. I know it cant compare with you guys Lakland but im still happy that i can buy it only for 300 bucks😄 i dont have the photo of her only so let me post the one that i have..sorry her in the most right side

Wow, I didn't even realize Lakland had a Japan series.

Some of my favorite basses are made in Japan, I'm sure they're fantastic!

For clarity the Shoreline series is made in Japan by ESP. They are very similar to the USA line with the exception of the neck finish. The Shoreline has a satin finish vs an oil finish. The Skyline Japan series is Made in China. I have never played one so have no comment on quality. I believe they are called the Skyline Japan series because they are for the Japanese market only. So in the USA we have the USA line and the Skyline line (made in Indo) and then Japan has the Shoreline line and the Skyline line (made in China)

Ah that's interesting to know.

These days it doesn't seem to matter what country anything comes from - what matters is *who* it is that builds them. Some really great stuff coming out of China recently too. It would be great to know what factory makes those Japan Skyline series.

There is a guitar "custom shop" out of China called Shijie that basically models their work after Suhr guitars. They have amazing build quality that rivals some of the best US makers and their prices are very reasonable for what you get. I actually wish they made basses.

Its an ESP factory. ESP owns all of the Japanese market Lakland stuff. The Skyline Japan basses are not marked where its manufactured (neither is the Shoreline though) but I verified manufacture straight from them. So I am not sure what ESP's Chinese stuff is like. I know that the hardware and electronics on the Skyline Japan basses are not the same as everything else. The Shoreline series used Hipshot licensed stuff and the Japan series does not. The pickups are also not Lakland USA pickups. Other than that I have zero idea what the quality level is like. Lakland's hierarchy would be USA > Shoreline > Skyline > Skyline Japan. But how big those differences are I cannot personally say.

I already try the shoreline and the different is only pickups and dots. My skyline japan also use hipshot lic. The feel almost same if i cant say its same. And Some shoreline line has bartolini pickups instead lakland usa I dont know why.
And i believe for skyline japan only body that made in korea or china, the neck still produce in jpn and assembly here. Just like the scheme of edwards.
