Yes I was incorrect they do have Hipshot lic. tuners. Most of them have Duncan Designed pickups. I don't think any of them have Lakland pickups. I only know what I was told by ESP and they indicated they were made in China. I don't see how they could sell them for so much less than the Shoreline models if they were assembled in Japan with Japanese necks. Everything indicates 100% Chinese manufacturing. The Shoreline necks are extremely high quality and even have the maple dots on the rosewood models.
Edited to add: I also forgot that the Skyline Japan has the truss rod wheel for adjustment

Skyline and shoreline both has truss rod wheel which are different with US.
Regarding with price, skyline is same or almost same as fender japan which 100% made in jpn. So maybe we cant justify from the price. I buy it cheap because its used and im good buyer
Anyway where ever your LAKLAND produce its still very good bass

Interesting. I see on the site that they did change to the truss rod wheel. Last I saw one they were not like that and if I look at older photos they still have the body route. So at some point they changed it. As far as the Skyline Japan basses I only know what the company told me which is that they are made in China.

Different color yes, but still Ash body with Maple neck and board. And, of course black hardware!
Correct. Its a Skyline line made for Japan. Lakland for the Japanese market is its own thing completely managed by ESP. I have no idea why thats the case but it is. So ESP mirrors the USA company. Shoreline is the top of the line (built in Japan) and the Skyline for Japan line is made in China. It is the lower end line made for the Japanese market. None of it is intended for the US market.
It had been sitting at a well-known retailer for more than a year. It was not going to be repaired by them, so I was able to get it at a very low price. I was lucky that they kept the broken piece and tuner hardware. Took about a week for me to repair mostly due to finding a matching wood filler to blend in.

Question for the group....are the necks the same on the DJ 5 compared to the 55-02's? I used to own a DJ 5 but sold it way back in the day. I've got the Lakland itch again. I'm more a fan of the jazz style body shape but like the versatility of 55-02 with the pickups and EQ. I know I could always make the DJ active (and I do have a Sadowsky preamp pedal) but trying to finalize the decision. If the necks are different then I'll probably stick with the DJ but if they are identical not sure what I’ll do….

Has anyone else had issues with retro-fitting Bartolini Jazz pickups to their US Lakkies?
I tried to fit some B-Axis pickups to my 44-PJ, but the J was just a tiny bit too big. Compareong the measurements of Laklandnpickups and Barts, seems like a length discrepancy of around 0.4mm is the mostly the culprit.
Anyone else have this or just me?
Thinking forward, just wondering where that leaves me if I want to order a Dual J Classic and swap the pups for Barts.

Love the black hardware....and ebony blocks aren't a bad look too depending on the body color.
Having owned both you cannot really feel that much difference between a DJ5 and 55-02 neck. Looking at the specs more closely on the website it shows the main differences being: the DJ has 21 frets and the 02's have 22, The fretboard radius is a 12" on the DJ and 10-12 on the 02's, and the width at the last fret is 3" on the DJ and 3.3" on the 02's. Again these are the specs on paper.......from my personal experience I cannot feel much of a difference at all between the 2 necks. I am actually in the market for another DJ5 as I type this!
