I once owned an Indonesian 55-02 and it was a perfectly fine bass. Since it was a lined fretless (which were/are hard to come by used) I bought it. A year later I finally got my hands on a used 55-94 lined fretless (even harder to find used) The 55-94 is the best 5 string I’ve owned hands down. There is a difference if you can find one used it’s worth the wait.

As long as you’re not looking for a fretless or lined fretless you chances of purchasing a used 55-94 are pretty good.
As prices rise for 55-02’s we may get to the point where a used Lakland 55-94 and a new 55-02 cost around the same
amount of coinage. Just my take.

Its already pretty close to that. At least with the classic line. If A new 55-02 is in the range that you can find a used 55-14 for. And with the used market getting weaker its going to be easier to find good deals. But then again if you are going used then the used 55-02 will be a much greater bargain

Question for all of the LH3 people. I just got my Shoreline 4-94. Its nice. Like wicked nice. I expected high quality from Japan but this is really beyond. The neck is a thing of beauty. Anyway..

I noticed that this one has a Rev A board even though its from 2013. I assume they probably just had old stock for longer in Japan. Is there any reason at all to care about this? Honestly I didn't know until today there were different revisions. Are the Rev's really all that different? It sounds good I just want to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything.

At that price range you will get priced out of Lakland pretty soon with their current offerings. I don't want that to be the reality but it is. The absolute cheapest Classics are around $3300 and that is the passive offerings. I give it a year or two until that increased to be at your cap. And its never going down. So its not that I don't want to sell you a bass its just that the market won't allow it pretty soon. Imports are the only way to get into the $1500-2k game these days unless you are as big as Fender. And their new Road Worn Precision from Mexico is $1600.

My limit isn't fixed. It can adjust with inflation. It's just math and economics.

Having said that, the cheapest 55-94 I can find is 4600-4700 new. Sweetwater has the 55-14 for 3350.

This Bart preamp is pretty powerful. The boost especially is huge on all 3 bands. I do find the treble cut isn't very "tone knob"ish compared to what I'm used to, but it doesn't sound bad. Combined with the pickup switch there's a lot of options. I'm particularly liking the '60s JB setting with blend centered and using the MM setting biased towards the bridge.

I haven't messed with the mid frequency yet, but I've got 250, 500, 700 and 850Hz available. Anyone have any recommendations for utilizing the mid control? It's at 500 now which seems reasonable enough, I'm just curious if anyone's had success boosting or cutting one of the other frequencies.

Considering getting a 44-01 and swapping out the guts with some Nordstrand dual coils and a Trickfish preamp with a passive tone control...use it as a modding platform.

Never been a Bart fan, even the original stuff. Quite a few available used, so lots to choose from.

I never found anything else than 250hz relevant to me. I got the bass set like this and it made the trick for me straight up.
I tried the other frequencies and didn’t find them sitting right in the mix. Just my preference …

I been looking for a 4 string lately as I contemplate a few upcoming recording projects - I opted for a 44-01 deluxe (spalted), a new old stock at a decent discount from a different dealer who happened to have one, looking forward to getting that Bart feel on

I have Trickfish amp and cabinets, it's the bomb - I hear their preamps are outstanding! I personally like Barts as an option, but if I was given a choice on a build, Trickfish!
