Lakland Owners Group #69

I've been a P bass / Stingray user for decades, but recently scored a used 44-02 off the TB classifieds....love this bass! The fit, feel and tone are everything I've wanted. Last night I completed my Sterling Sub fretless conversion project with an ebony board ($375 invested) and much to my disappointment, it sounded much better than my fretless USA Stingray; walked away from my workbench thoroughly disappointed. So maybe I'm better off with a fretless 4-94/44-02, or just find a lite-weight 44-02 and replace the f-board with an unlined ebony board. Hmmmm.......

I don’t know what you’re budget but there is a Fretless Lakland 44-02 in the TB classifieds at this very moment. Since it’s one of the early Korean Skylines it may be on the lighter side. l owned a 55-02 ( Indonesian made) briefly and it was an exceptional bass, I traded it for a 55-94 lined fretless which is now my main EB the neck, lined ebony fingerboard and finish are impeccable. Fretless Laklands aren’t that easy to come by at least in my experience. So you might want to check it out. Here’s my 55-94 from the

I’ve had a dozen different P pickups in my Glaub and all fit with no issues. Also switched casings around, no problem.

There are outlier import companies that offer pickups and casings that are not Fender standard specs that may not fit. It’s safe to say that Lakland works with a standard Fender spec for pickups.

Any P pickup stuff from a well-established company with past history should work on a Lakland.

From this week’s newsletter on its way to me… notice anything unusual 😁🤔

The backstory per Brian is...we received a batch of necks from our vendor a number of years ago without the usual painted headstocks. Even though they were cosmetically not what we ordered, we hung on to them & used them over the years for situations like this one.

I’ve been jonesing for a DJ5 for a while but they’re all so heavy. This one comes in at 9.1lbs. I tried to resist as I do not need another bass, yet here we are. Lol. Might have to sell off the 55-02 to compensate.

Great story and so worth it! That's a real beauty, love seeing the grain, low weight, a keeper!

Picked up a Lākland watch. It’s not bass related, but it’s Lākland related. For $100, you get your money’s worth out of it. It’s got a sapphire crystal and comes with 3 bands. I don’t think there’s anything else on the market in that range with sapphire.
