Wow Doude! Very nice. I hear what you're saying about ebony. It does take a little different approach when you're used to other fretboarded basses. I owned 3 ebony fretboarded basses, one bolt-on, one set-neck, and one neck-thru, and the last 2 were the hardest to eq right. Something about all that sustain and fullness of those basses compared to the bolt on made it not work for me with that high treble snap. But I've just decided I'm a bolt-on guy. You make that bolt-on a Lakland, and I think you can get just about anything to sound and feel right. Now you've got an ebony fretted instrument I'm drooling over. Revenge hurts!

So yes, the (now) sonic blue BG used to be CAR when Matt sold it to me. The DS pup that he has came from this:

I bought it, then later acquired a DPLEII...couldn't justify two skyline BGs with a darkstar at the time, so I took it to Matt. He dug it a whole bunch, it became one of the many basses that we've sold between ourselves.
But, with a great Darkstar comes great responsibility. Matt knew that he had to get a custom build for that pickup
and so he did. Can't wait to play it!

He he he...this is my 3rd ebony fretted bass.......and I have an ebony fretless as well.
She sounded excellent today.....nice when you actually have a guy at the sound board who can properly mix both the FOH and monitors....I hardly tweaked at all....
Both mellow and rocking this bass nailed it.....
I did get a bit of distortion at times when I dug into the B string a bit too hard .......I guess I was excited.....
Very happy....and why wouldn't I be?

Its creamier than it looks in the pictures.....a bit more yellow-tan.....but very light.....

Anyone see the McFarland J5 for sale on Leo's site? Talk about a piece of Lakland history….
LH3. It will be a steep learning curve, mostly playing passive 4 string basses.
Apparently it's very light and sounds fantastic.
