So I want to pull the trigger on a DJ5. But a question remains...those of you in the know, how does the neck compare to a 5594?
You're not- my fingers feel like they loop over themselves on a jazz neck.
No offense to those who like them though- and I think the jazz bass is a super sexy design, fwiw.

Hate to say it, but this might be a good fit for a DLB (and that controversial headstock...)
It's in training on Dagobah - the force is strong with that one.
I tend to miss notes on th eE string near the nut....my fingers have significant "overreach"....I particularly have troubles with the Marcus Miller and Geddy Lee models...
I just finished these for Basspraiser. One for a Custom Pedigo 55-94 and one for a 55-Double Buck. These are Wenge with Brass laminate.

Updated family photo, and some thoughts on the Hollowbody 30.
Sold my 55-01 that I'd had since 2008. It was my first 5, my first Lakland, and it still is a phenomenal bass. But I've been reaching for the 55-64 more and more lately, and I've been wanting to try a short scale bass for a while now. So I decided if I could get the right price, I would part ways with the 55-01.
My first gig with the Hollowbody 30 will be tomorrow, so I'll probably have some better insights after that, but my initial thoughts are.
1: The tones are awesome, exactly what I wanted out of this bass. The bridge pickup has some bite, but man as soon as you roll in the neck pickup the sounds just get (somewhat unexpectedly) huge!
2: I consider myself a 5 string player at heart (and the Lakland 5 neck specifically is what feels like home to me at this point) but what surprised me about the Hollowbody 30, is that I actually found it much easier to switch back and forth from my 5 to the short scale than I've ever felt switching back and forth to a 34" 4. I haven't quite figured out why that is yet, and obviously your results may vary. But it feels totally natural, whereas normally when I go to 4s from my 5 it feels uncomfortable.
I would definitely be interested to hear others experiences or thoughts on this...

Love my HB30. It immediately felt comfortable to me. I never considered a short scale for easy of use just the tones you get from a HB and short scale. The upper register is super. You can go massive dub if you roll off the tone and solo the neck. The bridge solo'd gives a nice jazz back pickup sound but with everything on it has a voice that you just don't get in a full scale slab body bass.

Where did you snag this pickguard from? Probably going to change the guard out from the stock white on my 44-64 custom at some point. Any ideas where I can bag a black one? I really have a think for black/red at the moment. =)One of the best basses on the market! But I'm biased.
I got this one from a TB'r who took it off of his 44-64. Jeannies or Lakland can make you one.

Thanks man, I've been looking into the short scales recently. I really want to get one for some variety. You saying the Lakland 5 neck is your thing now, is exactly how I feel. So saying switching back and forth from that to the short scale is easy, gives me a good impression that hopefully, I'll have the same experience.
On another note, how does the Lakland P5 you have feel/sound? I could never keep Fender Ps. They're supposed to be like...the standard....but they always felt and sounded the opposite to me. But after I played a Lakland P I was a changed man haha. I need a 5er, but again, the Fender 5 neck in my opinion is atrocious. So having never personally played a P5, what are your thoughts on it?
The 'burst on your 55-64 looks killer. Would love to see pics of the body front and back!

I have played several Fender P5s and they NEVER felt comfortable to me.
The Lakie 5564 is very comfortable IMHO...and the GREAT part about it is that ALL of the Lakie necks are the same profile so - if you like one, you will like them all!
There is a decent priced 5564 in the classifieds right now...
Not a 1.5" fan myself. I really like the 4-94, stingrayesque 1.6-1.625 profiles
