My amp EQ settings didn't change. I use the bass EQ flat so that I can boost or cut as needed.

I'm pretty sure I was using the gramma correctly, I mean, I stood on it all night...;)

Haha that was funny. The guy at Sam Ash went into detail about how to use the gramma when I bought it :meh:

The Gramma pad helps me out a lot compared to before I had it. But I've had the same venue sound competely different. Maybe there was something else going on in the room to give you that boom that was out of your control, and not your fault. Hopefully it works out, because those Grammas are great!

That's what I'm thinking. The cab was a bit closer to the wall than usual, so that could be it.

I have to say that most really don't give the 5501 enough credit because of the stock pre. I have a Lakland spec Bartolini NTMB from a 5502 in mine and it's a ball buster. Aggressive as hell with the stock MK1 pups and is like a possesed PBass. The 5502 is so polite by comparison.

I had a 5502 and although it wasn't my taste I feel the same way. I like that you say people don't give the 5501 enough credit, and I like how you give it it's fair share of stage time. I've always wanted one, or a 44. Just to have around. Although it's the entry level Lakland I always thought it was misunderstood. I'll definitely grab a spalt 4401 in the future. Test out the stock electronics (that I found easier to manage than the 5502 I owned), and decide on mods or not after a few live trials.
