Unfortunately my Darryl Jones 5 has to suffice for now, since I'm putting my money towards a brand new Aguilar rig! But when I'm ready I'll absolutely check out the classifieds (For some reason, I like my amps brand spankin new. I've been burned or had things crap out).

It's funny I ask in the first place. I always hated Ps. I wouldn't go near them. And if I did, I would quickly sell them off. The Fender Ps were I dunno, lacking personality. It's the work horse for 60 years!...Ok that's great, but I don't want my fathers P. I want a P I can cover anything with. The Lakland just had THAT feel. (Plus I think all Fender 5s are sloppy messes).

Am I the only one who thinks that the 55-64 is kind of...ugly at first glance? Yet there's something about it that draws you to it and you MUST HAVE IT? Haha. At first I was like yuck, and then I set it as my phones background. Haha drool

I find the 4 +1 Fender tuner weird and kind of "ugly" ...the fifth tuner really looks like an afterthought....

The Lakland 5 is my favorite headstock. It's so classy. My eye always went to what looks like an over sized pickguard. But then I started seeing these burst 55-64s with black guards, and wow. Mind has changed. And that famous one I always see in posts. The natural, black pg, bound and blocked rosewood fretboard...omg.

I loved my 55-64, but it's gone to a better place now.

I saw the rig you wanted in the Aggie club. I have a db750 into a db410 and its super heavy rig. I was thinking of doing the same rig as you were thinking. Much more portable, and really don't need all the power of the 750. The volume knob has never gone above 11 o'cloc . Even on the noisiest stage. Most the time they don't mike me

Yea I thought I was sold on the DB410 but after researching and extensive question asking, I'm real excited about the 2xDB112. I bet that 750 is a monster. I would love a 751. Overkill for my needs, but just incredible.

I always thought Laklands and Aguilar go together like peanut butter and jelly. I can't wait to hear what my DJ5 sounds like through it. I regret selling my 5502. I should have hung on to it to hear it through the aggies :rage:

How was it volume wise. Both stacked, and as single cabs? The weight doesn't bother me, I've got a gruv gear solo cart coming my way soon. And the depth is something I'm looking forward to. My rack is a bit deep and hangs off the back of my Hydrive 410 a tad. Should fit perfectly on the DB112.

Must be an omen that I enter the TB Basses forum & the Lakland Group thread is at the very top of the page! I'm going to flip my Spector Euro 5LX (love the tone; thought I'd eventually get used to the narrow string spacing, but I guess 19mm is my comfort zone). After yesterday's 3rd round of demos, I'd narrowed it down to the 55-02 & a MM Sterling 5HH. The Lakland (for me) has a wider variety of tones, and even though the MM has wider spacing than the Spector, it's still less than 19mm. Having previously owned a 44-02 (twice), I'm familiar with the LH3 preamp & pickups. The MM Sterling is a beast, so perhaps a 4 string is in my future - but that's for another thread!

Only minor problem w/ the Lakland is the input jack needs to be replaced. For the last 1/8th inch of travel to properly seat the cable end, it needs to be forcibly pushed in. Dealer said he'd do the swap, no problem. So even if I do get it, which seems likely, it won't be coming home w/ me today.

I loved the 5502 tone. I sold it because I like the simplicity of the passive J bass. But man that bass was loud, and LIGHT. It looks like a damn tank, and weighed less than 9 pounds. I just mentioned I regretted selling mine.

The problem I have with the Music Mans, having owned my share, is that no matter what you do to it, it'll always only sound like a Music Man. They never sat well in a mix for me because they were so....."obvious" I suppose is the word I'm looking for? There was no blend. It was like there was a band mix, then on top of that was THE MUSIC MAN MIX. My sound man loved my 5502 and currently loves my DJ5.

On another note, how does the Lakland P5 you have feel/sound? I could never keep Fender Ps. They're supposed to be like...the standard....but they always felt and sounded the opposite to me. But after I played a Lakland P I was a changed man haha. I need a 5er, but again, the Fender 5 neck in my opinion is atrocious. So having never personally played a P5, what are your thoughts on it?

I love my 55-64. But I like the sound of p basses, so to me it's just that P sound made slightly more "modern" by Lakland's pickup choice. As for feel, fit and finish wise it's obviously great. If you like any Lakland 5 string neck you will also like the one on the 55-64 (because all the stock 5 string Lakland necks are the same.) And body style again is such a personal preference thing, but I like the 55-64 way more than the slightly offset shape of the 55-60 Custom I traded for the 55-64. But at the same time I probably liked the Lakland body shape of the 55-01 even better, (especially when sitting down that short bottom horn sat really comfortably.) But that is not in any way saying the 55-64 is uncomfortable, it totally is! I'm just making observations...and after all, the 55-64 is the bass I still have! So that should say something...

...And to add to another conversation I saw happening, I got my black pick guard direct from Lakland. Just emailed them and said I wanted a 55-64 pick guard, they quoted me their prices...and I had it in my little paws within a couple weeks!

Pros: Hugh McFarland neck, Nitro 3(2?) tone sunburst finish, super flamed maple neck/peghead with great Birdseye maple board. These are all features that I value highly. It has the other early Lakland features which are a bit less important to me, but cool nevertheless.
Also has a moderate quilted maple top which is pickguard-free. Has old Barts
which I am cool with.

Cons: $2800 shipped is big $$$$ for a 4-94.

That is a bit on the high side for a used 4-94, but those older necks, especially the BEM, play like buttah and are worth the entry price IMHO.

That's a particularly nice one as well aesthetically with the BEM on the front and flamed back.
