Lakland Owners Group #69

Little question: I have this 44-64 Skyline which is super fantastic concerning playability and build quality. No complaints there. The only thing I dislike a little bit is the sound. It's not bad, but it's a bit...erm...boring. My '72 Fender is way more dynamic and powerful. I think that's a Hanson pickup thing, so I'm looking for a replacement. I need something fat and dynamic. Do I install a Fralin like Lakland used to in the old days, or a Fender CS, or something even better? Lollar? SD?

The Aguilar PBass pickups are probably the best I've played for vintage tone. The Duncan SPB1 is a close second. I have the Duncan's in my Lakland Duck Dunn and the Aguilars in a 64 clone, and I have to say that the 64 clone gets played more because of the sound.

I just dropped Aggie Super Doubles in my 55-01. OH MAH GAWD. Huge.

Which preamp are you using? I have the Bart NTMB in mine and just installed ChiSonics a couple of weeks ago and did a comparison with the MK1's. I have to say that the difference is not as drastic as I thought it would be. I thought the difference would be huge based on the ChiSonics that I put in my JO vs the stock Laklands. I've been very curious about the Aggies given how impressed I am with the PBass pickups.

Aguilar... OBP-3... It's awesome

More Aggie love here... now that I have been playing my DCB equipped 55-60 for a while I am really impressed by the tone I am getting with these beasts.

Got in at about 3:15 AM this morning after a rocking Friday gig and found a set of D'Addario XL's on the counter.

Me: Cool, a set of strings!

Wife: Yeah, they came in the mail today.

Me: Hmph... I didn't order any strings.

Wife: Want to know who sent them? (digs in trash can for package)... What is "Lakland Owners Group"?

Me: It's an awesome website that gives people strings when they least expect it. BooYa!

Oh yeah, had the same experience a couple months ago. Great surprise.

Good news and bad news.

Bad news is my 55-94 won't ship for another 2-3 weeks as the shop is extremely busy, especially with all the Sweetwater orders for the new Classic series.
Good news is Leo demonstrated outstanding customer service by ringing me direct to tell me about the delay (originally a December delivery), and gave me a very nice goodwill gesture, which I greatly appreciate. I'll have it in time for my next gig in late Feb, so all good there.

But the waiting....:nailbiting:
