kinda curious about a fretless decade. that would be an expensive gamble, unless i could hear one. probably gonna end up 4 series, maybe even a 76. if they would do it. I think id go with aguilar pup and pre though. I already have my dream bass{fretted) and I LOVE my toy franklin, but I love the mm fretless, I had a fiver that was defretted with maple board, and I loved it, but the sting spacing was a little narrow.......
If someone has an extra couch.....gotta save for that fretless and just got a new apartment, ill be waking up there new years day!!!!

May be rejoining the club as I've been offered an amp trade for a 44-60 with J Retro pre. I ALWAYS run my basses passive, but am open to trying new stuff. Now those dang J Sonics are looking like a worthy upgrade!
The J retro is pretty transparent ..I think you will like it!
Not my experience with the East pre's I've used (J, J Deluxe, P and U Retros). They definitely have their own color and flavor. Not a bad thing, but I wouldn't call them transparent.
Little question: I have this 44-64 Skyline which is super fantastic concerning playability and build quality. No complaints there. The only thing I dislike a little bit is the sound. It's not bad, but it's a bit...erm...boring. My '72 Fender is way more dynamic and powerful. I think that's a Hanson pickup thing, so I'm looking for a replacement. I need something fat and dynamic. Do I install a Fralin like Lakland used to in the old days, or a Fender CS, or something even better? Lollar? SD?

I had them put the Chi-Sonics on my Skyline DJ-4 and I really dig those.
When I got my Skyline 44-64 Custom (P/J) I loved the bass, but the pups sounded sorta ho-hum so I tried some EMG GZRs and I am very pleased.
