Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I had a US JO and loved everything about it but the weight (US/Skyline won't fix that for a JO). I currently have a Skyline 44-02, and it's a fantastic bass. If you are happy with your Skyline, do the recommended neck treatment and you'll probably get a good approximation of a US neck - at least, that's how it worked out for me. I always buy used, and you can typically find a nice US model on here or elsewhere for around the price of a new Classic series, so keep that in mind. As for comparison to a Fender, the Skyline's run circles around International Fenders, and are just as good as US Fenders from a playability and craftsmanship standpoint.

I'm new to Lakland. Fill me in on the recommended neck treatment. Thanks for the used tip. There is a USA 44-60 in my price range for sale now. It even has tort.

Yes, I think I got lucky and got a really nice light one. The fit and finish is very nice, the pots have a nice solid feel when turned. I can't find a flaw on the bass. It plays and sounds great, and I can always try the neck treatment but find it to be fine the way it is. Thanks for the advice.

The "Classic Series" is a great priced US bass....As stated, you will lose the blocks and binding and only have choices of Lake Placid Blue, Black or tobacco burst.

Its really up to you....they are very nice.

I agree that most Skylines are nicer than most US Fenders!

If you are happy with your Skyline, keep it!
I gig with both my USA and Skyline basses.
You can always get a second USA model later on.

So a little update on the LOG. I gave the bass the once over, changed the string and gave it a quick set up. It seemed to play well. I took this bass into the studio Thursday night and started tracking some parts when we noticed a crackle in the signal. Well, it seemed the input jack had a bit of a short. I dug in and found a complete cluster. Very poorly done soldering and a stereo jack and a bad tone pot. Anyway, long story short. I'm replacing all the guts today and it should be in fighting trim by this afternoon. A little bit of a bummer, but no big deal. While at the studio, we all notice the great tone of this bass! Very musical and cool. I've got to tell you, I've never been much of a passive guy nor much of a P-Bass guy. I have always thought Precisions sounded great from the audience, in some other guys hands, but not so much in mine. This LOG bass has got me a little bit excited to track for our next project and unleash in a live show.
