Finished with new guts in the LOG and all is right with the world once again! I'm thinking this must have the Nordstrand NP5 in it, but I don't know for certain. It looks like the NP5 with the staggered pole pieces. Pretty bright with the tone dimed, but mellows considerably as the tone is rolled off.

Nordys, Hanson Neo and Hanson Vintage all have the staggered pole pieces.

Correct. I have a 55-02 with the Barts that I'm considering swapping to the LH3 setup.

Interesting, I had a 55-02 with the Barts that I sold to get another bass and that bass is now on CL and am thinking about getting another 02. Was a little surprised that all the ones at Sweetwater had the LH3. What do you like better about them? The Barts were a little warm, polite to my ears. Thanks, jim

I like the Barts, they are a bit darker than the new stock setup. I really like both. The LH3 has a bit more mid presence and sounds a tad more HiFi.

I've really thought about trying to swap the entire bass for a 5502D with a rosewood board and 3 tone sunburst. What I have now is the 5502D cherry sunburst with maple fretboard. I want a darker look with brighter sound.

I'm looking actually at that same bass, 3t sunburst and r/w board. So in reading some reviews some were critical that the pre-amp isn't mounted inside the control cavity, that it is just laying on top of the wiring, and that the older ones, Korean, were mounted with 2 screws. Do you know if that is true? Mine was a Korean, 2004, and I think I opened the back once and can't remember if the board was mounted or not. Sorry to bug you with all these questions, thanks, Jim

No worries. The 5501 MK1 pre is not mounted, but the 5502 LH3 pre amp is mounted.
